2024-03-14 05:17:16 +0000 UTCThe old lady was Kiri no Kara, Toranaga's first wife. There are some details I'm sad they missed, but some I'm really glad they kept in. The bit where Ishido says "He's so ugly, with a face like dog. We should display him around the Empire 'behold the freak from the West' " and his attendant laughs. This is for the book readers, who know that this is a deliberate half-insult. Toranaga is from the west, so you could take it to mean that everything he just said was actually about Toranaga. You don't have to know it, but it's that little bit extra spice.
