I heard about the controversy over the timeline, and I haven't seen Todd Howard's explanation. But it really shouldn't be surprising after (probably) a protracted nuclear winter and whatever else that there aren't groups of people who disagree on something as seemingly innocuous as what year is it exactly, especially when considering we're pretty sure two centuries have passed.

There are a few things that are just difference between gameplay design stuff and how it would actually work (power cores last like 5 minutes in game as an example)
