I'm not sure I agree with saying One Piece isn't "a erious adult show with adult consequences" ... there's some really messed up shit that happens in here. There are tons of consequences, though I obviously agree those consequences are never death (outside of backstories). Like, Chopper killed Hiluluk with that mushroom. He was gonna die anyway, but Chopper absolutely killed him with good intentions. That is some serious stuff to live with.

Oda's really great at writing powerful, emotional death scenes full of thematic and character-driven meaning, but he's terrible at following through on them

As for what you brought up about Sanji, I get that the “no stakes” bit does kinda deflate things for you, but I do like the intent Sanji has here.
He acts all macho and love crazed, but despite what he said to Usopp, like you said, when it came down to it, he was willing to sacrifice himself to save both Usopp and Nami. But more than that, him going “Leroy Jenkins” into the ship, imo, was him actually trying to rush in and beat up whatever goons he comes across first, that way Usopp could sneak in afterwards and get Nami from behind while he’s creating a ruckus. And of course, he does the Mr. Prince 10 steps ahead move of sabotaging the ship once he recognizes the situation. So yeah, all in all, this still is a good Sanji episode for me despite the sacrifice “meaning nothing” given we know he’s gonna be fine.

“kintama” means golden ball, but it’s also slang for testicles, to explain that joke and why Aisa has a problem with Luffy saying that

It's funny to me that Nerdy has only paid attention to the map of character locations about twice, but I am gratified that one time was the time the narrator was despairing at the inability of the El Dorado group to reliably head south
