I think you underestimate Whistledowns power in society. The people of the Ton are mostly pretty bored. They don't have to work, only the people who have to take care of their estate (e.g. Anthony & Kate) have tasks. Whistledown gave them entertainment. And don't forget that Pen wrote a lot about bad people and their bad doings and not just mean things about the nice debutants.

When I read the book, this also happens and I was thinking right away that Cressida should not get the credit. Whistledown is such a great achievement and Pen has always been looked down on by everybody. After all, it is her life's work and she has done what other women couldn't do.

I do hope to get a bit more commentary on the Benedict side story - I count on you guys, in particular, to discuss it competently ^^ most other reactors have trouble reading the bi panic in this particular scene :D and btw, let me just remind you that Benedict being queer has so far just been our collective head canon. any confirmation would put an end to, objectively, 2 seasons of queerbating. many people assume that he and the artist from S01 had a thing (it's been a long time since we saw it, I get it) but they never did. ^_^

She DEFINITELY has her own carriage- and drivers that are paid VERY well to keep her secrets. AND she does have a compartment in there where she keeps her hooded cape, so she probably had writing implements in there too. She's had the luxury of her own funds and the fact that no one pays attention to her for her to have gotten away with it for so long. Her drivers, her lady's maid (Rae)- they know shit- they just know to keep their mouths shut if they want to keep getting that Whistledown coin. Also- to avoid getting caught sneaking out so much, she started dropping off the editions at the modiste and hiding them in silks. Her writing has been being transported by delivery boys. That's why Irish Whistledown just told the copier there was an issue with the silk deliveries and that he'll be paid extra to get it done overnight.
