This, this, this!! It's my favorite TV series of all time, and I've recently gotten my boyfriend into it-- we only watch it on Sundays (our work schedules are very opposite and it's the only day we see each other), he's *already* on season 7 and vibrating with excitement to start Atlantis.

Berry

FYI, I would LOVE to see you two watch SG-1. It's right up your alley.

Zyrus

Human Bodies and Sarcophagus: The sarcophagus heals human bodies because the Ra introduction said that he found humans to be much more biologically simplistic than his species, and he could maintain their bodies "indefinitely". That's why he possessed the human body that became "Ra". The implied reason for the presence of children in Ra's court is that, if somehow Ra's current body was too damaged to repair, he could possess one of them and become the new "Ra" that way. Constellations: Constellations are the same everywhere on Earth, but some of the constellations are only visible in some parts of the Earth. The only reason there are different starmaps is because the horizon is in different places. But for instance, the constellation Orion? Looks identical from everywhere on Earth that can see it. Cats: Check out the Egyptian "Mau" breed of cats. They are pretty close to identical to the parent breed of most modern house cats, so that one is actually relatively reasonable. Salute: The kids did see Kowalsky salute to O'Neill that first night they were watching them. Series: SG-1 starts a little while after the movie, and was VERY good. I'd love to see you react to it if you're interested in it. Atlantis overlaps with the later seasons of SG-1, and Universe overlaps with the very end of Atlantis. The Stargate movies follow on. Stargate Origins was terrible, unnecessary, and no one liked it. As you saw, almost all of the characters who recur between movie and show(s) were recast for the show, except for Kasuf (Erick Avari) and Skaara (the kid) who appear in a couple episodes. O'Neill and Jackson are main characters of the show, recast as Richard Dean Anderson and Daniel Shanks, respectively.

Thoth Process

I'd also watch SG-1 reactions.

Kevin

I would absolutely watch SG-1 reactions! Great idea. Just do the first season then reevaluate.

Dr Wiggo

If you do decide to react to Stargate SG-1. I will say only one thing "Comtrya!"

Michael Bryson

Also the "white" girl is Israeli of Morrocan and Turkish ancestry

god i just started watching this and I'm sorry, this is one of the ones where nerdy talks over 80% of the exposition and complains it doesn't make sense. Case in point Nerdy realizing O'neil's son shot himself 40 minutes after they said that and he was talking about answering machines

Several people have asked the question of what's the point of Stargate Origins 🙈 SG-1 and Atlantis are great, though of course some aspects haven't aged well. Haven't watched Universe.

Emily Böhm

As a person who found y'all because of The Expanse, please please watch all the movies and shows. You would gain so many viewers again.

Austin Fisher

Yes the explanation Daniel gives in this movie is basically complete nonsense and doesn't work at all if you think about it for more than two seconds. And it basically gets retconned in the series anyway. Which is really good by the way, though it probably peaks somewhere in the middle seasons.

HamHamJ

I would highly recommend watching Stargate SG-1, even if you don't react to it (though that would be great). It's mostly an adventure-of-the-week show, though a larger plot expands significantly as the show progresses. I'm sure there's a list of "important" episodes you could find if you wanted to trim the show down for reacting (and still have a lot), but I would absolutely be along for the full series.

Ghengis Don

also, I think the idea of Gate Address (granted a term brought up by the series) is kind of a good analogy, the constellations are not necessarily being used as a math equation to determine the destination based on the 6 points, rather it is similar to the zipcode/street address that is associated with the other gate. Also why the Earth symbol has nothing to do with the constelations around earth, but "hey we had a pyramid with a single moon/sun and people worshiping" and for the alien world "hey we also have a pyramid, but we have multiple moons here"

Seth Brower

Got a chuckle at the repeated calling of this a "prequel" when ... I mean yes it comes before the series, but also ... it was made before the series. Also, as a 3rd Rock from the Sun fan, always great to see French Stewart.

Seth Brower

The series is funnier and more light-hearted with less of a hollywood epic movie vibe, but the feel of the props and environment and storyline is the same, so you get the best of both worlds. This is definitely in my top 5 series of all time, and there's so much to explore! If you don't want to commit to all of it, maybe just go for the first season or even the first few episodes to get the vibe? This is definitely a series that gets better each season but even the first season is great! Would love to see reactions to it even if it's not every episode.

LightBlindedFool

SG-1 and Atlantis is great! Would love to see you watch it actually 😁

Tyrann

The star map doesn't change at different locations. The part you can see changes based on latitude. You can't see the southern cross and Australians cant see the north star but everything you both can see is in the same location.

LoNaboy

Took them waiting years for Jackson to come in and identify the 7th symbol for them to make it work...but it would have taken them like, 30 minutes to try all the symbols just with trial and error.

Code76

The constellations are always there even when you can't see them. Based upon the show, the center of each constallation is paired with the next one in the order that could be on the opposite side of the planet at the time. So with 6 constellations it pinpoints a spot somewhere in the nearby sky. It wouldn't work outside of a few thousand light years. The show gets that wrong. We can only see a short distance with the naked eye in lightyears. So all of the constellations are very close to earth. The stars in Orion are between 26 lightyears and several lightyears.

Michael Bryson

You should really watch the show

Michael Bryson

Very true, almost no movie actually is accurate to countdowns though. lol

I am so on board with an SG-1 TV show reaction! I love the Stargate franchise! To address some of Nerdy's issues.. The TV show eventually fixes some of the issues with the "science" of the Stargate and how the addresses work and they do expand on things that were not in the movie . (I always just take it they didn't quite understand what was actually going during movie and got lucky, and a few outright changes to make the TV show work better, but they treat the movie as mostly cannon, etc) TV show starts with them using the Gate to try to contact the planet in the movie again and from there they start to explore the Galaxy (This is explained during the pilot) and grows (A lot! There are 10 seasons of just SG-1 iirc) from there.. Some of the same characters are in the show but have been mostly recast to other actors .

Will Valentine

The only thing I've never gotten over is how the countdown was the longest 7 minutes in cinema history, and how Ra's ship got back into space in about 30 seconds. But I'm here for SG-1, let's do it. The show stays very much in the fiction part of science fiction, as opposed to Expanse trying to be a little more science, so you still have to suspend a lot of disbelief, but for the most part they provide an explanation for most every question.

Shep

Yesssss so much! The movie has grown on me as time goes on, but it was not my favorite at first because I actually started watching SG1 before having seen the movie. I grew up watching SG1 and Atlantis with my mom, it was our ride or die we never missed an episode kind of show. I've been meaning to do a rewatch of it for so long, I think this reaction just settled that it will be next on my list!

danilouwho

STARGATE LETS FUCKING GO

Lux Divinum

Its kinda like Buffy in that way

Austin Arminio

The Stargate movie is...ok. The tv series it spawned? One of the greatest sci-fi franchises of all time
