2024-09-05 03:38:32 +0000 UTCI second Nerdy and the other comments here. There are plenty of entitled characters that are beloved like Tony Stark and even characters like Gale from BG3. You can have complicated characters who are good at heart, but have their own inherent biases and assumptions about what is owed to them by nature of their privilege.

2024-09-04 20:27:04 +0000 UTCSo I am someone who might put Shallan as their favorite character in any media ever, not just this book, not even just cosmere, any media... IMO Shallan IS entitled, basically equivalent of rich white girl privilege, but also disprivileged by being a woman and being abused most of her life. A good example is that she got a little bit panicked when hearing about the eye darkening drops, until its quickly explained that you can only darken and not lighten. I think she has unexamined biases (and i am quite confident that this is intended by Sanderson), even if in general she is empathetic and convincable. And while I often disagree with some Nerdy takes, i think he is quite correct here - she is definitely using a bit of light eye privilege in a semi-intentional, assumptive way to leverage herself against Kal. It's complicated, just like real life.
