One Piece Ep 243 Full Reaction!

Hmmm, I wouldn't read too much into the language choice, given the translation. If anything, if a particular line interests you, you could ask us patrons to look it up and give you a couple translation options so you don't spoil stuff for yourself. What Iceberg actually said was 'kakujitsu ni sekai o horobu', which can be translated into English as "will definitely destroy the world" or "will surely destroy the world." Here, "kakujitsu ni" assigns a descriptor of "definitely" or "surely" to the outcome, "sekai" means "world," "wo" is essentially "will" in this situation "wo horobu" is "will destroy." As far as the Iron Body, Shave, etc. techniques: Remember mantra and how it had nothing to do with devil fruits? No fantasy epic worth its salt is going to have a single power system, otherwise characters without become less important. You mentioned you've seen DBZ. Characters without the core mechanic are ultimately just background noise when it comes to combat, and eventually the story itself. This is true of many fantasy stories. However, if you layer additional power systems into the mechanics of your world, you allow anyone to potentially become a force to be reckoned with. Devil Fruits are the most noticeable power system in this world because the effects are so wild, varied and imaginative, but they count as entry-level and maximally accessible. Anyone who can eat stuff and doesn't mind not being able to swim on an ocean planet can be a Devil Fruit user. Not everyone can use mantra. Not everyone can cut a warship in half from a distance.

Stephen Vaughn

With how much I anticipate every new Arc and island, I agree with you that the history of One piece world is the best hook in the series.

Ahmed Hussin

You are confused because you know Bruno has eaten the Door-Door-Fruit but he is also able to do other things. Just remember that in this world there are powers apart from Devil Fruits. More information about these other powers you will get with time.

Your theories are so interesting. I can't wait for more. :3

The word Iceberg used in Japanese that they subtitled as "go under" was "horobu" (滅ぶ) which is an alternate reading of "horobiru" (滅びる) which means to die, fall, collapse, perish, or go extinct. To my knowledge it doesn't have connotations of sinking or underwater. Even for the official translations, it can be very hard to know if a particular phrasing is meant to be a breadcrumb. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E6%BB%85%E3%81%B3%E3%82%8B That being said, you obviously presented a good amount of evidence beyond just that phrase.

The truth is revealed!!

Zibus

So, fun trivia: The reason the reveal of the CP9 characters is so well done is because Oda himself did not decide until very close to the reveal who CP9 would actually be under the masks. CP9 could've just as easily been Paulie, Peeply, and Tilestone.

Highly Educated Trucker

The dub says the world will be destroyed, and not that it will go under. Very interesting though

Bouwe Feenstra

Man I got goosebumps watching this reaction and hearing your theories

Hamza Jirrari

Very nice take, I enjoyed it. Can't wait for you to catch up and see whether or not you were on the right path with your theories.

Rayanh LaNansha

A few hundreds more episodes to go. If you like twists, you will lose your frigging mind. Looking forward to it!

Thall

Just wanted to say: You forgot to put this one in the collection :)

Thall

Nerdy has questions, Oda always answers! Just got to be patient.

EgregiousGrievous

i, for one, really enjoyed that fun tangent

Yagi di Hoshi

Dont know if it was the subtitles, but what was said in the episode was that pluton is indeed the name of one of the ancient weapons, and the blueprints were meant to be used to create a copy of pluton in order to fight the original one
