Oathbringer Chapter 18 Audiobook Reaction!

Wow, that escalated quickly. So you're saying that attempting to stop your friend from killing his wife is the same as slavery? I don't get it.

LightBlindedFool

I would want to be friends with people who mind their business, but prod gently. Again, you CANNOT pretend that forcing someone to do something is anything but slavery.

Zyrus

Well, they did say Ned was their friend, specifically, in the book and stuff, but OK. They weren't the worst people, but were they decent? Would you want to be friends with them? I still go with Clarus on this one.

LightBlindedFool

I still think Nerdy is right here though, if taken in the context (rough bar people). They were generally watching over the people, and there isn't much they can do preemptively for something that doesn't endanger the bar - and even in that situation, they could at most kick Ned out of the bar, which would not help his victim in any way. I don't think they were friends with Ned, nothing points that way I think...

Alexandre Antunes

It's good to let soldiers relax and alcohol is good for that, but thinking that they should get drunk to avoid serious fights is ... not accurate.

Hippoblue64

That wasn't the argument though. It was whether this was a group of "decent people".

LightBlindedFool

Why? Nerdy is one hundred percent correct here. You can't make someone leave a relationship if they don't want to.

Zyrus

All alcohol in this world is called "wine", like all different kinds of birds are all called "chickens" 😁 pretty sure the chicken maize had on his shoulder was a hunting falcon or something Gemhearts are permanent and rechargeable unless they are used irresponsibly and break! This war with the parshendi has thoroughly enriched the alethi The people in the bar were not decent people and at the end of the day, I don't feel bad about the stabbed hand. That being said, Veil had 0 of that information and she should not have done that at the point that she did

wartgalore

The thugs didn't kill Ned as any kind of moral punishment. He (or the copycat) killed somebody who worked at the bar that they protected. There is no moral calculation going on here, it was purely transactional. Ned was a threat to the bar's existence because Aladar might have shut it down.

Cyrian

Chalk that one up as a Clarus win :-D
