Seeing everyone you know die, and likely seeing what became of them from an early age is likely enough to leave someone with a darkness not easy to cure. More so if no one around them wants to help them come to terms with what happened/just wants them to act as if it never happened for the sake of image or whatever. Tends to fuck up long term.
