How many Warps to beat Warptorio? // live playtrough for patreon // part 1 - automation is hard

UPDATE: Warptorio blueprint book so far: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/f2i92hviksrg92jx9ql4d/warptorio-final-test-blueprint-book.txt?rlkey=iswa4m4lugmdvn1phe7pqam3l&dl=1

Update: changed title to be in line with the other warptorio posts to make it easier to find

Hi everyone :)

WARNING: The video above is the start of a mediocrily live-commented, UNEDITED full playthrough: the final test run of the warptorio strategy I've been developing and refining over the last few weeks.

This recording is not made with the viewer experience in mind, and next to my "often interrupted English", it likely contains many "strategic spoilers" similar to what will be in the edited project in a few months time, so if you want to be surprised / only watch a single, unspoilered warptorio playthrough, I recommend to skip this and wait for the final product in a month or 2.

What this video WILL do is give you a detailed, in-depth look in the strategy I developed and why/how I got to that point, some of the changed biter mechanics in warptorio, as well as highlighting a whole slew of behind-the-curtains stuff which is going on in the normally unseen areas of the game. Seriously. I pause a lot, using commands and the editor to better showcase some of the concepts and inner workings, which all adds even more time to the already unedited playthrough. It is probably best watched on a second screen or so in the background while you're doing other stuff, with the occasional focal point drawing in your full attention every now or then.

That being said, for those choosing to watch, I hope you enjoy/appreciate this "surprise upload".  I'm quite curious (and unsure) to what level this video will be interesting for different "groups", from casual factorio players to warptorio mod veterans. Please feel free to leave a comment about your thoughts on videos like these.

=================

The next episode (ep.4) of the post-launch 100% evolution series is still in the making, it's gonna be quite a long episode, estimated to come in around 40ish minutes. I would have cut it into 2 parts if I could, but there's no good halfway point which wouldn't lead to an unsatisfying episode, so alas, 40 minute episode it is then! I'm halfway into the video editing step, so expect it to be ready next friday! The scripts of ep.5 and ep.6 have been written as well, I only need to write the script for the video part of the final 2 achievements still. I'm not sure yet how long or short that to-be-written script will be, which means either ep.7 will be the "final finale", or I may attach to episode 6, making it into a long finale. After that, I will pick up the indestructible-biter-bases main project again, as well as it being time for the REAL warptorio side-project!

Feeling motivated! Thanks y'all!

Michael

PS some people asked for my thoughts on the upcoming factorio expansion "Space Age", I will cover that once a few more factorio friday facts have been released... (But ooohhh... the "quality" aspect... Now THAT's a feature guaranteed to make a sharp divide in the community!)

What a treat it was to discover this VOD when I signed up to support. I love your editing and narrative style, but I'm equally excited to see your realtime reactions in a slightly more natural setting.

Yes, having to refill them half as often (means also less risk in them running out while you're doing something else like loot chest hunting), and it's a lot easier to build and deconstruct (with 1-2, you need to have a gap for power poles between either the steam engines, or the boilers, thus extra pipeworks to construct and deconstruct for no advantage at all)

Hi, it took me some time to start watching it, but here I am now. Just one question regarding the play: Is there any reason you use 1-1 boiler/steam engine combo, instead of 1-2? The only reason I can think about is that that way you have more with the coal/boiler ratio, and have to refill them half as often. :)
