How To Be Anonymous In The Streets

Thanks for your detailed answer. I now understand much better where you're coming from. I guess i am just afraid of the privacy community going to war with itself. Our cause is so important and it would be sad if we fail because we Start fighting ourself instead of acknowledging our differences and at the Same time working towards the Same goal. Regarding proprietary stuff: of course you should criticize that. But I think there is a difference between pointing the Finger at Microsoft or pointing a Finger at techlore. Because even though I don't personally like him, he is working towards the Same goal and thus should be Seen as an ally, not an enemy. But yes, we have to criticize and scrutinize each other to improve and grow.

I disagree, why does everyone need to be soft and snowflakey? it's OK to have bite. carry on being rude and calling people out.

Yeah.. it’s really important to not create us and them scenarios. I have to say when I saw the hated one’s call to action it made sense to me naming names of channels with “similar” content along the lines of why isn’t it happening to them. I didn’t sense a moral high ground but more a frustrated and upset guy simply telling it like he saw it. I’m really pleased people respond the way they did.

Super clean production. Great video and info.

This is where people are reading too much into my intentions. If people want to watch sponsored content, by all means. If YouTubers want to take sponsors, knock yourselves out. But there is a problem here where sponsored content is biased and that bias is subsidized by corporate influence. It creates unfair market conditions for non-sponsored content that's critical. What I want people who take sponsors to do is to admit to this bias. Because that's what it is no matter how "transparent" they want to be about it. I don't want to censors my criticism just because people's egos get offended. Should I only point out the benefits of a FOSS E2EE service and also not criticize a proprietary service that harvests data? That's not how criticism work. I am glad you are expressing your disagreement with me here. And we'll likely continue to disagree because I don't want to censor my criticism of bad practices. I am definitely a piece of shit. But I am not trying to put myself on a pedestal. There are problems with audience funded work too. Nothing is perfect. Nothing is sacred. And there is plenty to criticize me for. I would only hope that people that disagree with me wouldn't automatically burn bridges. Because that seems to be the norm.

The Hated One

However, I can also see why other youtubers didn't take your criticism that well. What you were basically doing in the Video was name-calling those channels similar to you who accept Sponsors. Even though I also see sponsorships and affiliations as problematic, I don't know if it was necessary to Call them by their names. By doing so you are Kind of putting yourself on Moral high ground and pointing the Finger on everyone else. In my opinion you actually have higher Moral and ethical values than those other youtubers. But I don't know if pointing Fingers will change anything. Probably it will just upset them. How about simply outlining the positive aspects of your approach, and letting you being an example be the force that makes other creators look up to your Ideals and Start striving for them as well.

CopyCat

This is regarding your previous Post about criticizing you: I absolutely agree that we should have a climate that is much more open and supportive of criticism. As long as It's constructive and not destructive it should be highly valued.
