Also dont agree thst governments will be the primary driver behind splintering. As you said, Facebook has already been a major driver for this in southeast Asia, and we're only seeing the baby steps of Web3.0 which might really speed up corporate walls between user bases.

Hang on now, what evidence do you have for splintered services within the EU? GDPR and these other initiatives were created with the purpose to have a legal framework to protect users privacy as well as clear restrictions for domestic and international corporatist interests. The right to be forgotten is another example of this. I don't agree that this is a catalyst of splintering, rather that this is a compromise between corporatist and individual freedoms.

correction: It's called Tencent, not Tenent. And It's one of the largest Software companies in the world, they own a lot of companies even in the West. They are insanely creepy.
