EOK 0.0.23 and news post

Hello everyone!

Welcome to another game update and news post for End of Knights!


Alright! It's been a busy month. Let's go with some internal stuff before we head on to the game.

On my part, I wanted to mention that I'm going back to full time on the game! (For the most part.) There's a lot going on in the background and due to some unforeseen problems, I'm not able to keep up with a normal full time job. Not without stopping the work on this game and I refuse to do that. That being said things are going to start a moving a tad faster as I now want to finish this project and make other games. What will this mean for EOK and Blind Wolf Games? Well let me explain!

So I am planning on finally showcasing the studio. It's going to be minor at first. Next year, I am going to get a booth at FWA 2024 to showcase the company and do panels on how to make furry games, I hope to have Minle there and we both can teach others to make fandom games.

At the booth, we plan on showing off EOK, Witchy Dare and hopefully a teaser of the next flagship game. On top of that, I'll be working on a few different projects with other members. We have a graphic novel and a book written by our wonderful writer Brandi. I'll post more about Blind Wolf and it's projects in the near future. 

Speaking of Witchy Dare, for all who don't know, that was a small game I made for a game jam earlier this year. I believe that I can release it this month as it was a rather small game. It's pretty much done and I want to get some thing out in the wild. I hope to release WD on steam. The wave of new people really showed me how not ready we are for the public and I want to control our image rather than have people think the game is dead.  For a while, we had the game and the studio under warps since we didn't have much to show for. Now with a team and everything we have built so far, I feel like we can start taking some big steps forward. 

Apologizes if this seems out of no where. I do plan on making a new channel for other products and everything soon. Now that I have more time, I start doing more manager tasks and get everything cleaned up. 

Please bare with us while we make these changes. Now let's move to the game.


Coding

For this month, I worked on the skill tree, a new game over scenes and some bug fixes. Most of the coding went into getting the current and future skills to be unlocked with the skill tree and make it more an important part of the game. You'll now unlock combat skills and magic spells once you find a shrine at any town. At level up, you get skill points you can spend those points on the skill tree.  

Minle had to take a pause during this month as they started a new job. So combat items still in the works, when it's ready I'll send it out with the closest update. 

This coming month, I plan on getting more of combat finished. I want to start adding new skills and magic content. I think we are close to finally working on content again. New items, new monsters and setting up the tutorial are on the list. I might also start working on cleaning up the inventory screen.

Art

Most of this month's art went towards the combat screen. Combat now has most of the test art replaced. All the combat backgrounds are finished and some of the test art for player interactions have been changed. There's a few things that need polish but I will get to that soon. 

The Red slime and Red kobold got their first frames in their grapple. That took a bit longer than I wanted but I think it looks great for a placeholder. It will take me a bit to get them animated as I want to focus on cleaning up the player animations and fix old monster animations first. Not to mention new combat animations.

This coming month I hope to start working on polishing the inventory UI Art. It's time to update that interface.

Gummi this month worked on some new art for items. Below is the rework for the minor potions and the farmer shirt. They also had to take a few pauses throughout the month and they want to write a post themselves. You'll see that in another post.  

Finally I worked on some of the new art for the knights you all picked. I will share the progress of that on discord soon. I'm thinking at the end of the week.

Music

Warden is still awesome. They made another travel song and the new game over song. That game song is now in the game. I'll post it below so you can take a listen.

Writing

Brandi wrote some of the new travel events in the game. I'm hoping to get her to write up the next story for a new monster. Aside from that more lore and hopefully the story part for the tutorial is planned for this month.

What's next

So halfway this month, I plan on releasing 0.0.23 as a public build. Fear not, I plan on not giving them the save feature since you all are paying for early access to the game. Aside from that, I hope to get another hot fix with some extra stuff content to make up for that. Speaking of hot fixes, I updated the game. 

There was a major bug that caused the player to be unable to die if their hp reaches 0. That was found quickly and fixed. I'll post the new build here and update the old file too.

Bug fixes

The hunting knife now appears normally and not as an axe in the inventory.

Fixed armor breaking at the wrong pace when fighting the goblins.

Fixed the save error of the days number not being display correctly.

Known bugs

Boss monster scene might not spawn in

Uptown story events show up at the wrong time

Save system will load the wrong day number if saved more than once in the same scene

Can use items with a single click rather than double clicking.

Crafting error with new items (Crafting is turned off)

Training needs fixing with miscount bug. (Training is turned off)
