Fur Interaction Demo

I've had a breakthrough with the fluid simulation this afternoon, and finally got a result that I feel is adequate for the purpose. I'm just clearing up the last bits to let me start rendering this scene, and should get it running overnight, whihc will be the first proper progress in maybe 2-3 weeks.
In the meantime, some of the interactions between Kyn and Efa look ok when she's touching where he has fur, but the fur itself doesn't respond to contact. Proper fur moves and flattens when you touch it, it doesn't phase through your hand.
So I spent an hour figuring out how to do it.

While I'm blathering on for a second time in one day, I'm hoping I might get time to do something christmas specific before christmas. Fortunately for this project (but not for my biking) it was announced this evening that my country is allowing movement for christmas day, but the 5 days after it which I was going to use the loosened restrictions to go biking somewhere decent has now turned into a complete lockdown until the 11th of January.
Now, I'd also like to take the opportunity to point out that I'm being as careful as I can with travelling during the pandemic. I live and work in my van, and when I go riding, I ride alone and have all facilities I need onboard the van, so there's no need for any contact with other people. Even then, I'm not planning on going far. I have several places to ride fairly locally, but because it's where several counties meet, we're not supposed to move from one to another, so something that is 10 miles away, I can't go and do, even though it's countryside to countryside. I've not done it in the last few months, and I won't be doing it during the next lockdown. It will only be during periods of lesser restrictions. Unfortunately, that's gone from 6 days to 1.

Well, it was a long and painful slog. I just hope the result works for viewers. Having got past that situation, for some reason I decided it needed a second quick extra simulation, which really has not gone as well as I hoped and would probably have been cut if I hadn't gone and put some story-relevant action in the background because I'm dumb like that. The christmas deadline is a bust. Not a chance in hell that I'll get the rest done tonight. I've got most of the main parts done, now it's just the final scene and adding a few pickup shots for dialog. Not masses of stuff to do, but beyond this timescale. The lockdowns are especially annoying because where I live and where I bike are both in the countryside, but have a county border between them. There's practically zero risk, but rules stop me. On the other hand, apparently it's perfectly fine to go in to a covid hotspot city to sit in a meeting room with clients, as long as we open a window. I'm fairly sure I've already had it right at the beginning anyway, after contact with someone returning from a high risk area, but if I get it again I can guarantee it's not going to be from the outdoor exercise! The sad fact is that where I am, there's nearly nowhere that I can get myself into potentially life threatening circumstances on my bike, which is kind of fun to do occasionally. I'm not sure what is going on with the embedded videos. It's a simple MP4 hosted externally. It shows the damn preview but shits itself if you go anywhere near the play button. I have no idea. Also merry christmas if the world doesn't end in the next few hours, which given how 2020 has been so far, is entirely likely.

2020-12-24 17:05:35 +0000 UTCHuzzah for breakthroughs! From the previous post, it sounds like it was a painful slog of minor variations to get there, but they paid off in the end! Hopefully we'll get to see some of the failed ones before too long, haha It's good to have deadlines, buy try not to stress too much about keeping to them strictly. If you have the chance to get some exercise in before the post-Christmas lockdown I'd take the chance regardless of what that might mean for progress on the episode Glad to hear you're able to be safe while traveling; even surviving Covid can mean potential long-term complications. Sucks that the lockdowns needs to happen at all, but there's no good answers to the situation. Fur demo looks great, I'm always amazed what rendering engines can achieve with the right equations. Subtle effects like that should really help cement Kyn and Efa in the environment. As a side note, the embedded Google video didn't work for me (Firefox, Win. 8.1), but the link was just fine Thanks for the updates, it's always good to hear from you! Hopefully things continue in their okay-ish state and the lockdown doesn't hamper you too much
