Final stretch!

Like literally. That's the character animation now all wrapped up for this episode, and the final scene animated and going to render in the next few minutes. All that's left to do is complete the earlier SFX shot then do the edit and we're there! And to be fair, most of the edit is already done. I build it up as it goes along. All it needs is a few passes over to see if there's anywhere it can be trimmed or improved. Fingers crossed there's no need for pickup shots.

One thing that might take a while is credits. There's been a few people been through, donated then left again, or unpatreoned after a few months. I'm not complaining or anything, I'm grateful for every person, no matter how long they stay, so all of them still need to go in the credits, cos they joined since the last one was released, so it doesn't seem fair to just add the names of current Patrons. Who knew record-keeping would play such a big part!

I think, provided nothing goes horribly wrong, you guys should be seeing it between the 1st and the 5th. It has just occurred to me right at this moment that this episode involves big buildings and a certain amount of destruction, so early september might not be the best time to put this one out.

What I'll do, I'll fire it out as a patreon exclusive to begin with and leave it until later in the month, just in case people take the timing the wrong way. In the meantime, I'll pile in to the next episode and see if I can get a decent amount of it knocked out before the release date.

As an aside, I got the part to fix my bike, I'm off riding somewhere tomorrow where I nearly always break something on the bike. Out of 4 visits, I've had major mechanicals 2 of those times, and tore a muscle while falling off on the 3rd, and one of the guys I was riding with broke his bike completely. So it'll be interesting to see if I can get past the first 8km this time and ride the other 14km.

Finally, this week I've finally gotten around to watching Helluva Boss, and I am genuinely amazed at how good a lot of it is. It's one of those things that I'm now stashing away as inspiration for some of my stuff. The animation is great, sound design is so good, and they're all a bunch of lovable bastards. Fantastic.

Editing as you go also has the advantage that I've been doing pre-renders a lot now, so the current scene is 1750 frames long at about 105sec per frame for the full thing. I can do a viewport animation render of the whole thing in about 30min to see how timings, blocking and so on looks, so I can go in and correct them before the final render. It also means I can do a pre-edit on them and only render what needs to be done, which saves a lot of costly re-rendering. It would need to be after the 11th. I'm hoping to get it up for Patreon in the next few days, and after literally months of working on this thing, there's 100% stuff I've missed that I'll have to go back and fix once you guys see it and point out the issues. That could take another week or two to complete, so we'll be past the 11th by then. Bike is fixed, but got ill so no riding yet. The curse is holding firm. Going to try tomorrow instead. Door part has still not turned up, so it's a bit awkward getting in and out. Also discovered yesterday that my licence doesn't cover a vehicle as heavy as my van. In the UK, on a standard licence you can drive up to 3.5t, which I thought meant kerb weight, exclusive of loads. Turns out it's actually Maximum Authorised Mass, which is 5.5t in this thing, so I shouldn't drive it, and need to upgrade to a C1 licence, letting me go up to 7.5t, which is another complication, but I've put in the request for a provisional C1 licence and should be able to get my course and tests by november. I honestly love everything about Helluva Boss. It's my type of humour. I highly recommend looking up reaction videos by a videographer. Can't recall the channel name, but he breaks down the shots and technical bits of the episodes and give a lot of insight into how well those things are made. Not to say it's perfect. There's a few predictable bits, and sometimes they switch scenes too quickly, but otherwise it's wonderfully chaotic.

Huzzah for nearing completion! Editing as you go seems efficient, gotta have _something_ to do while everything's rendering. Very kind of you to put in all of the donors, hopefully that doesn't become too big of a headache. At least Patreon should have solid records of when people joined/left. Personally I think you'd be okay if you're over a week away in either direction from the 11th. At least, I'd hope people wouldn't be that sensitive after 20 years! Definitely understand the safer route, though. Glad to hear the bike's back together, hopefully the part for your main door came in as well. That place must be something special to risk another stroke of bad luck. here's hoping you make it through this time! And indeed, Helluva Boss is a wonderful treat, especially since they're releasing it for free! Would've been a tragedy to have something like that trapped behind a paywall, Loona/Stolas/Octavia are lovely gems. Hadn't even thought of the sound design, but it's indeed impressively crisp quality and well-timed
