Ignore if you don't care about my personal interests!
I posted a bit about this on DA too, but I'm going to go a little bit more into detail here.
I play a lot of rpgs, pretty much the only genre I really enjoy. I've played most wrpgs and some jrpgs. Dragon Age Origins has always been in my top 5 and I consider it a worthy successor to Baldurs Gate 2, which it kind of tried to be (with a lot of throwbacks to the series) I started replaying it and it has aged like fine wine! Writing is involving, quests are fun and varied, story makes you want to progress further, all the locations differ radically and the characters are great and memorable. Some people don't like the combat but I always enjoyed it, fast paced tactical action without turns is always a huge +, and I love the mage spellbook. Just replaying it I find tons of things I didn't on my first playthrough and there are often different ways to solve quests which I had no idea of when I first played. It's an absolute treat to play again and it gives me some valuable relaxation time between all the schoolwork and keeping up with my patreon duties.
About Dragon Age 2:
It was mostly bad, like, really bad. Lazy, pointless, button smashy, repetitive, simplified, stupid. But it had great characters, a pretty unique setting, and some nice aesthetics. They got massive negative feedback and I was hopeful that they would learn from their mistakes.
Dragon age Inquisition:
Single player MMO. Literally. Go kill 50 goblins. Gather 10 plants. Kill 10 mages or kill 10 templars, wow, choice! Go from point a to point b. Ancient evil has arisen. Companions that have nothing to them beside varrick who you already know, and you only tend to remember the fuck annoying ones anyway. Everyone is expendable, nobody is important. Leliana is pointless as shit. Etcetcetc. The game feels like it's crafted with more love than Dragon age2 for example, but it's just all wasted for the "epik open world" shit. They said during development that "they are looking for inspiration from skyrim " which basically screamed failure. Dragon age is anything BUT skyrim. And this empty sandbox pretense is even an insult to Skyrim. All in all the game is not exactly BAD, like it plays okay and doesn't glitch and combat works etc. But it has no soul. It's hollow, it's like eating the same thing every day for a month.
I've never been this disappointed in a game I was looking forward to (besides maybe TOR but I'm only myself to blame for that) and it's baffling how I can go back to an 8 year old game and enjoy it immensely while I never want to touch this abomination again.
If you like RPG's go play Dragon Age Origins and pretend the rest never happened. Ohh, and Awakening is great too.
