Concept art Journey

Here is a neat little project I've been working on most of the holiday season.

Friend from DA that some of you might know, http://the-murdellicious.deviantart.com/ gave me a practise project. I've never done concept art so this was a massive learning experience for me.

The assignment was to "Design a Sorcerer's workroom, then design a character that fits the concept and place them into the environment doing something."

Started with an idea of what it would look like for starters. Then started the concept process and did buncha sketches for the environment and for the character. Since I decided to go with a modern twist to the Sorcerer I adjusted the surroundings and the designs to work with the setting. After deciding on a kind of modern gypsy van to be our setting, we thought it would be awesome if the character was massively fat and stuck living in such a tight space. Managed to give this kind of weird mysterious ghibli vibe. So she became this kind of modern fortune teller who does magic for a fee and fixes computers and does shit like that and lives in her miniscule apartment, completely having given up on her figure.

I learned so much from painting and photoshop to sketching and designing. It was a really helpful experience and I hope to do more if I find some time.

Very cool, it came out really well in the end. Really makes me appreciate the work that goes into stuff like this.

it seems like you've gotten worlds better on drawing perspective and environments, love it!

man, as much as i do enjoy seeing you typical work, I am enthralled with the designs of the rooms!

This looks like it'd be such an absolutely fantastic story to tell, I'm super digging the concept of what you have for this. šŸ‘Œ one thing I love seeing artists do is working on new projects and interpreting their ideas into something. You normally don't get tons really that since a lot of the time it's content made to woo your audience.

Good shit this, i especially like how you went through multiple designs first before finalizing it. It's much the same in writing, and it's nice to see it in art too.

Even on your break you're working on art! You clearly love drawing and painting. I think that will take you far!

Glad to hear that! I know most people don't care for anything but the end result, but I personally find the process interesting and of course there are some people who also share this enthusiasm for such things.

Now this is the kind of stuff I love to see. Exploring new ways for project building and large scale collaboration always get me excited to see how an artist might grow when put with others. Excellent work Kip!

Is that bed for guests?
