About Patreon Goals

Patreon tells me I've reached 2000$/month, which is the goal for bws updating twice a week. I'm highly skeptical about this number, however. Usually on payday my pledged amount goes down from hundred even to a couple hundred dollars because of declined pledges and people who pledge without any intention to pay in the first place.

So I'm waiting a week until August to see what the actual payout will be, and if it's close enough to 2000 I'll start updating bws twice a week.

One way to avoid this kind of situation is to implement the charge-up-front on my patreon page, but this means you'd have to pay for the month before you get the content and I'm not sure if this is okay in my book. Then again, hundreds of dollars of declined pledges is not okay either.

As a pledger, how do you feel about this? Would paying at the start of the month compared to the end of the month affect your willingness to pledge?

Please speak your mind, I welcome all kinds of feedback!

Wow my boyfriend and I havve been reading your comics and I just started my Patreon. Hope I get as good as you!

JellyKat

I'll do the reward anyway since it's not you guys fault that some idiots decide to do fake pledges.

Kipteitei

Well, we can kiss 2 updates a week to DWS goodbye, unless the donation amount is close enough to the quota.

SirVile67

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!

So, I suppose I did not know this and wondered why it did not take my money and give it to your pocket instantly. I think the up-front is fine enough from all the delicious angles. I was actually worried my transaction did not go through, and although I most only lurk, I just wanted to support your work. 2c.

As someone who has been happily following your art and series for years, do whatever works best for you. Take my money whenever suits you.

TLeB

when i tried to pledge it showed me pledging for the current month and then having the next months payment on the first.

Arthritis

I'd check how this would change things with the Patreon staff before looking at the option too seriously, but my decision on the matter is that it's your content, Kips. You've gotta protect your livelihood, and you're doing this in a much more mature and sensible way than another webcomic creator whose ill repute on protection of their intellectual property is infamous...

Rhys Lawson

I know, and this is making me very concerned. If possible I'd like to smooth the process somehow, but I don't know if implementing this new system will immediately put things in effect.

Kipteitei

I was actually already under the impression that we were paying for the lookahead month. Will we all get charged twice in quick succession? For example, if I had started paying July 25th and got charged August 1st (I suppose for July) and you changed the rules on August 3rd would I then be charged again on August 3rd after having just paid? I assume yes, because Patreon doesn't do prorated months. That's okay with me I suppose but some people may definitely get their panties in a bunch.

Streamtiem

First of all, congratulations on getting to whatever point it is where Patreon at least thinks you've got $2000. I'm going to agree with the others and say that paying up front would be no problem for me, I have no doubt you'll deliver what you say you will.

Kestrel

Since you were the first, and only Patreon I've donated to, my initial reaction to not having an up front payout was surprise. I think it makes much more sense for you to run your Patreon with up front payments. That way, when the $2000 figure is reached, we've actually reached the goal. I've been waiting for this very eagerly.

Alex Fournier

Paying up front is fine by me. I'll admit that I've had to cancel a few pledges, and it felt like I was taking advantage of those people. When I first started using Patreon, I just assumed that I would have to pay up front, so I don't think this would discourage newcomers either. It just helps your pledge number to be more accurate.

Some Aigis

I get charged at the beginning of the month anyway, and I budget for my spending so it is of no consequence to me.

Nate Smith

I'd be totally ok with paying at the beginning rather than at the end because since I don't plan on leaving anytime soon a few days difference in pay means nothing :)

Traegerthorn

I was also super confused when I joined too.

Sae777

I'm paying patreon peeps upfront every month (on the first) no problem :) If I can't afford someone next month, I generally cancel before the end of the month so I don't get charged later, and get to enjoy what's on here during the month I pledge. At least that's my two-cents and what seems totally fair. I'm so happy you're earning a great wage doing what you're doing, and I hope you have reached this amount (without people leaving too soon)

Maxximooose

I'm ok ;) Let's go kip ^^

Chubbyornotchubby

I think changing to a "cash first, rewards second" setup is best for all artists, if Patreon were to include that option.

SirVile67

Hey Kip, if paying at the start of the month instead of the end gave me 2 dws a week I'd happily do it. I don't think anyone who is honestly trying to support you will object.

Sae777

Take my money and show me the chubs, no complains about when to charge me whatsoever

Rum_bear

My pledge stands by whatever, but for safety reasons I think having pledges up front would be a much more safe option and reliable for 'you'. This message alone shows you show compassion for your pledgers, don't worry how they'd react to it because generally speaking, I've noticed the same thing. Soon as the next month restarts as you said, it dips down, repeatedly. So for the sake of having a successful pledge to honor to those whom deserve it, payment up front would be the best option so people can't just cancel, good ol Dine n Dash, not my type of Dinner with the Sisters I'd enjoy. c:

Ayeda

Me not care either way. Im here for art and support good artist.

Profe MacKnight

I have only joined in the last few days and was confused when they didn't take any money tbh! I should have done this ages ago though i'm loving it here so far :)

Belly219

Don't mind at all how I pay as long as it gets to you. I'm more worried about this supposed two pages a week! I hope you can do it without massively stressing out. Good luck and congratulations on getting this much! p.s you said wait a week until August but it's August now ' w '

Phat94

I don't mind paying up front. For my bank account, won't change much.

Dragonfive

subbed 4 life so doesn't affect me

Aftermath

Paying whenever is fine by me. We all know this is funding the sinister Finnish agenda, but the chubs are so good we can't fight back...

Jared Hammaker

I'm plagued with pledge-and-pullers on my page. I've had to block a lot of people, and honestly Patreon's dragging its feet in doing something about it. I tried to make my pledges up-front but I scoured all the settings and I never saw the option to do so.

royaljellysandwich

Paying up front is fine with me. Heck, it makes sense. You're not here to create on credit.

Schattenjäger

As far as I'm concerned, I have no issue with paying before, simply because in my mind, it could be that much sooner that I know a card is being declined, and thus allowing me to correct it.

David Harder

I thought I was already paying up front, lol.

Geb Baserr

Payment up front is perfectly fine as it protects you from all the people out there wanting to steal your content for free. I know of a few patrons who've had to change to up front payments because people we're doing this and in some instances losing out on 1k sometimes. Totally not fair on your part and any good willed person on here paying for your content will not care about this

HanayoRin

Not at all, if the intent is to support you, then it shouldn't matter. The reason they did it the way they did is so that the patrons have the ability to cancel if the creator doesn't produce. I think paying up front is a way to protect the creators now. And hey, if you stop producing, we would only be out a single month. I say go for the change.

CinnaSticks

I'm okay with whatever I'm just here to support!

RexicanSasquatch

Paying up front is fine as far as I'm concerned. It's more important that you get your payout then a few people being miffed because you didn't make your monthly meme quota.

Ikkarix

I think paying at the start would be good

Hugoat

I'd pay up front, no question
