Patreon new sales tax in the United States
Added 2020-05-20 18:36:10 +0000 UTCSo patreon is now by law required to collect sales tax from pledges in the US. These vary by the state you're in but generally the amount is about 4%-11% of the taxable amount of your pledge. So for example, 4% of the 50%-of-1$ is not very much. The taxable amount varies depending on the pledge and I've tried my best to adjust the taxable amount so it will be as inexpensive for you as possible.
If, however, you find that your pledged number went up considerably please send me a message so I can look into it. It should only be a couple cents and at worst a couple dollars in the highest tiers.

You're right, It's also kinda ironic how no one gives two shits about artists until there's money exchanged, then it's suddenly a matter of extreme urgency...Ah well, at least one can hope these taxes would go towards something good but I'm probably being too naive.

But, this is such garbage, technically you and most other creators are not actually selling anything. This is just another cash grab. All levels of government are just getting worse and worse. I literally have to pay a tax to poop here, seriously, we have to pay sales tax on our municipal sewage fees paid to the city. At least there are Kip's chubby girls to calm me down ... or work me up in a different way :)
