Finally, a look into my map-making process!

It's rough. Really rough. I kept putting it off because I wanted to make a quality video...but that just led to me not making a video. So what you get is a raw, one-shot, rambling of me trying to make sense lol. Don't worry, I'll actually produce videos next time :)

Anywho, enjoy. Hope ya pick up a thing or two.

Awesome! I'm going to check that out now.

Just made a video using the methods mentioned above! I think it may actually work better that way than my previous methods! Will have the video up asap.

Another option might be to duplication your selection, then use a brush to delete around the edges of the top selection. I'll play around with that now to see how that works.

Hmm, I'm not sure about CS6. I'd need to get a copy of it and see what I could figure out. Doesn't help that I'm far from a Photoshop pro. I guess another option might be to make two copies of your selection then: CTRL click the layer of the top one, and Select --> Modify --> Contract, and use that to contract the selection by 8 or so pixels. Then inverse and delete. Not sure how it will look, but it would give you a smaller selection that would look like it's sitting on top of the first.

How would you recommend performing the Color Range step in CS6? That version of photoshop doesn't allow for adjustment of fuzziness and range when selecting the shadows option. I've been having a hard time getting the first and second layer to overlap each other and create the illusion of hills and peaks.

Nope, I just fiddle until I find something that looks good and just use the color picker if I want to match colors to any assets I use (sometimes I'll drag in one of my assets to use to pick colors from). When using the linear light color overlay, it completely changes the color (even if sampled from something), so you mostly have to play with it until you get something that looks good.

Are the colour values you choose related in anyway to the coloured island asset pack? Do you have a go-to colour scheme?
