Should the GTU invade the primitive planet Forever Spring?

Since their discovery over a century ago, the Greater Terran Union has been aggressively observing a primitive alien species whose homeworld roughly translates to “Forever Spring”. In recent decades this civilization has entered an era roughly analogous to Earth’s 20th century and begun attempting to intercept GTU reconnaissance drones.

Forever Spring is located in a strategically valuable section of the Outer Rim and this area is critical to the interests of the Greater Terran Union. Recent technological developments on the planet, including the splitting of the atom, mean that if the GTU is to intervene, it must do so quickly or risk unacceptable losses.

The uproar across the Union following a similar campaign against the Wassari means that any form of intervention is likely to be seen as a betrayal of the GTU’s principles by a vocal minority.  Should the GTU invade the primitive planet Forever Spring?

I think in the long run we'd alienate potential allies and embolden our enemies by acting as an aggressor. Plus I just don't like the idea of this sort of conquest!

Richard Hart

We made a mistake with the Wassari, this time we must be better, but still these Xeno must realise the galaxy is a dangerous and unforgiving place, only with us and our values will the survive it. I put forth that Terra must become they're teacher, not their conqueror.

Benjamin Sharman

The races of the galaxy are starting to hate us because of our invasions. If we continue down the road of war, they will group together and destroy us.

And should we act like the salarians from Mass Effect? Perhaps this approach may have unforseen consequences in the future.

Offer them alliance upon their notice of humans. We must not become that which we have sworn to fight.

So a slow invasion and a usurpation of their will is acceptable? Seems no less villainous than a full out military conquest, and more likely to create long standing riffs and simply push conflict off a few decades. Perhaps continued observation and eventual peaceable interaction would be a smarter move than invasion subtle or otherwise. To attack now may potentially rob the union of stronger allies down the road.

The last thing we need is for this new race to develop into another threat. At the same time, we must never become like the aliens that have invaded us. It would be best to uplift the populace and raise them to our values.

GhostReaper

They must be dealt with before they be a threat. Invade & integrate the population as soon as possible.

If we attack, we would be just like the alien that attack Earth. However, it is said "trust no alien". We stand on the crossroads. We attack and become what we hate the most, doesnt matter if we go with case purple or black. Or we can try different way, maybe, we can elevate the poor xenos and dont repeat the same mistakes.

Indoctrinate the xenos with the Union's ethics, and then send an infiltration team to usurp power within their government once we develop the technology to do so. Then, they will show their gratitude by voluntarily joining the GTU in the lowest citizenship tier.

Come on people, it’s not like we’re going to eat them.
