What should be done with the Sword of Terra?
Added 2019-01-30 22:38:58 +0000 UTC
The unsustainable losses in both men and materiel incurred against the nations of the Stellar Axis have left the Greater Terran Union in a perilous situation. With the economy and national reserves still recovering from the AI rebellions, it is unlikely that we can expect to regain the momentum in this conflict within the next few years. With foreign interstellar opinion widely opposed to the actions of the Greater Terran Union and generally favorable to the Stellar Axis, it is critical that no other nations enter the war against us. Therefore, a proposal has been submitted to the National Council, suggesting that the Sword of Terra be decommissioned. The arguments are as follows:
Decommission the Sword of Terra: With the Tyrum destroyed, the Sword of Terra has fulfilled its purpose. By retaining this weapon, we only incite fear and hatred in foreign powers who might otherwise be potential allies. Dismantling it would be a vital first step in normalizing foreign relations and preventing currently neutral nations from joining the war against us.
Retain the Sword of Terra: With the very survival of the Greater Terran Union in doubt, the necessity of the Sword of Terra is higher than ever. There is no certainty that among the powers with which we are currently at war, there is not a weapon of similar destructive power. By keeping the Sword of Terra fully operational, we ensure that we can immediately respond in kind. To dismantle it would be a display of weakness which we currently can ill afford.

FELLOW HUMANS I STAND PROUDLY BEFORE MY FELLOW MAN,WE WERE ON THE PRECIPACE OF BEING RENDERED EXTINCT BY ALIENS AND THEIR GENOCIDAL WAYS BUT WE SENT THEM RUNNING BACK TO THE HELLHOLE THAT THEY SPAWNED FROM BUT DID WE LET THEM GET AWAY WITH GENOCIDING US WITHOUT CONSEQUENCE, NO WE FOUND THEIR HOMEWORLD AND WE DID TO THEM WHAT THEY COULD NOT DO TO US, WE SHATTERED IT ALONG WITH THEIR RACE, WE ERADICATED A GLACTIC MENACE AND YET OUR NEIGHBORING CIVILIZATIONS DENOUNCE US AND TRY TO FORCE THEIR WAYS ONTO US? WELL I SAY NO MORE, WE WILL NOT KNEEL NOR BOW TO ALIENS, OUR MIGHTY SWORD OF TERRA SHALL SHINE BRITHER THAN ANY STAR IN THE SKY BURN BRIGHTER THAN ANY FLAME AND SHALL BE A SYMBOL OF THE POWER OF OUR GLORIOUS UNION TERRA INVICTA!!!!!

2019-02-02 04:44:48 +0000 UTCSo far the best comment! You presented the pros and cons of both sides and the only one of us to have the decency of making a suggestion about strategy and give a few words of hope. You may need to work on your grammar.

2019-02-01 21:34:03 +0000 UTCMy friends, we are LOSING this war! The losses we have suffered in the twin disasters of Xuukanis and Soao were crippling, and we no longer have the ability to replace them. If this war continues to drag on it will pose a serious threat to mankind as our other enemies could join the fight against us at any moment. If that happens we may not have the means to stop them... The question we must ask ourselves is will this bring peace? Will the Florians agree to peace if we decommission the Sword of Terra? If by this action we can secure peace the path is obvious... We must decommission!

2019-02-01 20:38:49 +0000 UTCFellow esteemed members of the state, it has became clear that with the destruction of the Tyum, humanity has had a clear and just reason to use the Pride of Humanity technology, engineering, ingenuity, our will to survive, and or vast economy. But with the weapon that can make a world inhabited by tens of thousands to millions at the bare minimum. That has sent a message to the rest of the galaxy that well send this enormous station to their worlds for submission or blood. These messages both are very impactful to us, our people and the rest of the known galaxy. If we laid to rest the destroyer of our enemies it'll show the galaxy we just had one target and any other word was an act of self defense, however with the large portion of military and vast larger civilian losses, the decommissioned platform would not make an larger enough amend. Keeping this weapons might show the galaxy that were here for blood and fire. Both choices are hard, with pros and cons... it is my opinion that regarding "The Sword of Terra" we keep her. Now is a time were war and distrust lingers on every world, in every heart and mind. We have shown the galaxy that we will not show mercy for those who have wronged us, for if you have. We will show the might of Humanity. Regarding the economy, recessions aren't uncommon. With time and superior planning well make a profit again. It would cost most to break The Sword down and build more ships then to keep her afloat. And now regarding the war. Firstly to any if you nations we are warring against our plan is not to use our weapon for mass slaughter, on rare uses will we fire. Secondly, members of the council if we keep this weapon, our foes will make a go to destroy her them self's boosting their relationships with other "threatened" nations. We will use their lust for glory to destroy their fleets and render them combat ineffective and win without firing her anymore. Keeping her will show our people that we will never back down to our enemies, to those who wish humanity harm, and that whatever our fight is against; either Xenos who want to enslave our people, robots who want to state a fable of their superiority or to a recession. All will fail at the hands of humanity. Form our Naval might to the effectiveness of our armies. From the heads of state to our vast workforce. HUMANITY WILL PREVAIL! Thank you again my fellow esteemed members of the state.

2019-02-01 14:33:08 +0000 UTCThe technology exists in the galaxy, and though the Greater Terran Union is currently unique in its access to it, other nations will soon catch up. If we dismantle this powerful device, then the only thing we have accomplished is making ourselves vulnerable to whomever or whatever constructs the next one.

2019-02-01 05:40:38 +0000 UTCConsidering the enemies we've made, this would be too much like tossing our sword aside amidst a cavalry charge; suicidal.

2019-02-01 00:02:38 +0000 UTCWe're being attacked again so our point hasn't been made. Not only should we keep it but as model of modern Fascist State maybe we should think of using it?

2019-01-31 23:53:05 +0000 UTCAt the risk of sounding unpatriotic, it is a necessary sacrifice. It has fulfilled its purposed and sent it's message, but now it's existence just paints a big target on us. If we aren't going to use it then it's time to let it rest.

2019-01-31 23:43:45 +0000 UTCWhat kind of a interstellar fascist government would we be if we didn't maintain our doomsday arsenal?

2019-01-31 22:07:37 +0000 UTCResources are better used to expand the fleet and our defensive perimeter rather than pool manpower and materials on maintaining one weapon!
2019-01-31 20:18:24 +0000 UTCResources must be freed up for more ships to fight the Stellar Axis! The Sword served its purpose by striking down the Tyrum and now this war requires a different approach.
2019-01-31 17:33:37 +0000 UTCThe sword adds nothing to the navy. Humanity needs battleships and destroyers not glorified drilling rigs!
