Stellaris Community Game Update #1

Citizens of the galaxy!

For centuries we have promised that one day The Templin Institute will host a community game of Stellaris. We are pleased to announce that the sign-ups for this great event will be starting on May 4th, 2019! For this first season, anyone who has pledged over $25 on Patreon will be eligible to participate. 

Once a month, we’ll be streaming this event as an extended session of Stellaris featuring those players who were selected to participate. We have room for 14 players and should we receive more than 14 applications, participants will be randomly selected with any additional applications added to a wait list. 

The game session dates are:

Session 1: May 11th, 2019, 14:00 - 18:00 MST 

Session 2: June 15th, 2019, 14:00 - 18:00 MST   

Session 3:  July 20th, 2019, 14:00 - 18:00 MST 

Session 4: TBD (dependent on the events of the game)

Please be available on our Discord server (discord.gg/templininstitute) a half an hour before the game time (13:30 MST) so we can work out any technical issues. Make every effort to ensure you’ll be available for each session. If you miss a session or have to leave early, your empire will be taken over by either another player on our waiting list or an AI. 

As this is a multiplayer game, it is critical that your computer and network be able to handle a large multiplayer game. During the sign-up process, you’ll be required to submit proof of your connection speed through Fast.com. If your internet speed is slower than 25Mbps you will unfortunately not be eligible to play.

The sign up form will also require information on the empire you’ll be playing as, ethics, species traits, government type, etc. We would recommend you start thinking about these things now! You’ll also need to provide us with your Discord ID and email address, as well as any social media information you want us to tag you with.

The selected players, game rules and additional information will be announced on May 9th.

Lastly, please be aware that given this is our very first large scale community game, there may be unforeseen problems and other issues normally associated with multiplayer games. Participants and observers alike are “beta testers” and we’d ask for your patience and understanding as we work to make this community game the best we can, while also looking for ways we might improve.
