Enter into an alliance with the Cloister of the Spirits? | Stellaris Invicta

Decades of partnerships with the Cloister of the Spirits has resulted in an increasingly close relationship and they have recently proposed entering into a Federation with the Antares Confederacy. Is this something we should pursue?

Too bad it didn’t last. :(

Greater cooperation among the free people's of the Universe is always a benefit, though let us not allow our own sovereignty, nor that of our constituent nations, be overturned by such an arrangement. Likewise, let us never allow our own interests to override our allies in the federation through any federal mechanism.

This federation is gonna Rock

also yes to war with the turtle people. When is that poll going up by the way? Finally can you please get some weapon research going? you passed over the single best early game weapon research the autocannon which with plasma cannons or even just the third laser research can completely turn the tide of entire battles. having 20 corvettes and 10 destroyers with the destroyers outfitted with 2 medium plasma cannons/laser weapons and 2 autocannons and the corvettes with 2 autocannons and 1 plasma/laser weapon can beat an equally sized force outfitted with the 3rd tier of lasers and kinetic weapons without taking a single loss. Sometimes you get unlucky and lose a ship or two but sometimes you won't lose a single 1.

The galaxy is a dangerous place, every citizen of antares know that. But we who control the confederacy from the shadows know what happened to earth. Our nation had to be strong to fight the many foes who threatened to destroy us, we must built a great military to defend us. But our greatest strength is our comunity. We came to antares TOGETHER, we may split up and lived near a century alone in the dark but we came back and founded the antares confederacy TOGETHER. Lets not stop here the Cloister of the Spirits aproached us again and again as friends. The profed to be trustworthy a long time again and now it is the time to take their hand offered in friendship and build something new. An Alliance of flesh and stone, strong as a mountain but alive, ever changing to adept to what ever the universe will throw at us. Let us be a light in the darkness for other nations to gather around us. Alhambra Biotech votes for the Alliance

My fellow representatives, while I agree that we must concentrate on consolidating our own internal affairs, we must not neglect the strategic and logistical benefits of a more extensive alliance with our neighbours. Strengthening our commercial ties alone should strengthen our economy. But more importantly, uniting into a larger power should give the Vurl pause in any future plans at attacking our borders.

Rolland Therrien

If I may interject, as representative of the Tehnali Republic we know a thing or two about hardships and how if we work together we can accomplish almost anything. That being said, we are alone out here and having friends is vital for our continued survival, but not by sacrificing our freedoms. Thus I must vote no, for the time being. Perhaps we can reassess the idea of forming a federation bur I must agree that a defense pact would be better suited for the situation. We'll be able to keep our sovereignty while at the same time protect each other from hostile enemies that would see us all destroyed. I thank you all for your time to listen to my opinion of this matter.

Mr. Speaker, I second the motion of the right honorable gentlemens Mr. Cmdshadow and Mr. John Hall, lets continue to maintain a strong defensive pact with "Rocks", but no more! The current government already overreaching its authority, and we do not want to give our sovereignty to some alien council, who in time become even bigger, mark my word. Our priority should be the build-up of defenses, to secure our confederacy and in the future liberate Earth. Thank you Mr. Speaker.

With all due respect representative this "federation" is a form is slavery but a form of mockery. Not only would we weaken our fleet with the "donation" of ships for the "federation fleet" but this effect would damage our economy. The best we can do is accept and maintain a defense agreement. No nation would want to fight two against one. Can the chamber and other representatives see the logic is a strong defense pact rather than a degrading "federation"?

Cmdshadow

[The Speaker] The Chair recognizes the Representative for Bắc mới Nha Trang –Prairie Island of Alhaji Mr. Speaker, with all due respect to the previous speaker, and with the up-most respect for decorum of this Chamber – What the fork was that?! I don’t know if I should question the sanity of the previous speaker or if he is in the thrall of foreign xeno-power sent here to undermine our common defense… I know I know Mr. Speaker I should not address the member representative directly is in the personal way and I retract my previous statement and apologizes… May I remind this Chamber the grave strategic situation we find ourselves collectively in… We are surrounded… almost on all sides… by larger powers who… who feelings towards this Confederacy and towards Humanity as a whole are either, at best, wary of us all the way down the gamut of hostility to outright genocidal! May I remind you all of the Vurl promised to burn this world, and all of its sister worlds, to atomic cinders. Remember that fun moment in Antares First Contact history? Remember? Now the Confederacy is taking the right sensible measures of increasing our productive and economic capacity and expanding the fleet to redress this challenge, but this does not change the immediate situation that just about every galactic power could at this very moment overwhelm our defense, obliterate our fleet through sheer numbers, arrive in this most excellent star system… and kill every last one of us from orbit. Every man, woman and child. You know what would dishonour our forefathers… being dead. To continue with this happy strategic assessment of the Antares Confederacy lets move on to… Earth, where find out, is now a slave state in thrall of a hostile power, and if it they have half a chance will enslave us as well. It appears we are almost friendless in a hostile universe… almost friendless. Mr. Speaker, the only friends we really have in this galaxy are the silicon based beings from the Cloister of the Spirits. They were our very first, first contact. They share the same values as we do and they are in almost the exact strategic situation as we are. At every turn they have been, friendly, honest, and faithful in their dealings with us and guard our southern border… And I know most members of this chamber are not military types, but may I remind you of the most fundamental eternal law of life, of war, of politics: Safety in numbers. This is no time for chest pumping and jingoism, for a blind, ignorant declarations of human exceptionalism… if one our ambassadors so much as sneezes on Kelarr we could be in a shooting war. The situation requires cool assessment of the facts and acceptance of the facts. The “Rocks” are our friends, they guard our southern border. The northern frontier borders several hostile powers. If we wish to have a hope… if, god forbid, any conflict breaks out we need a secure flank, reinforcements, and a friend to watch our back. Mr. Speaker, for the safety and protection of every citizen within the Antares Confederacy, for our common defense, for the survival of humanity, democracy, pluralism and the rule of law… for all that is right and holy in the universe, this alliance must move forward. Thank you.

The simple fact of the matter is that we cannot survive in this galaxy alone. I'm surprised there was any hesitation at all. The fact of the matter is, if we don't form an alliance with them, other federations will form to fill that void. What happens if the federations that do accept them are not as friendly to us. To top it all off, we want to declare war on the Vrul. Even with their homeworld destroyed, they have far stronger ships and more powerful military forces. Defensive Pacts may help to protect us, but if we want the first strike that High Command desires, then we will need allies.
