Books w/ Poppy Field - Bronze 2012 Exhibition Catalogue

Today’s Book Review comes from UK sculptor, Poppy Field, a graduate of the FAA Sculpture Program, and former Art History lecturer and instructor of Art Business, at FAA. Poppy also graduated from  London’s Courtauld Institute of Art where she studied Art History. She has selected the exhibition catalogue, ‘Bronze 2012”, produced by the Royal Academy of Arts, London, that features an introduction by the exhibition’s curator, David Ekserdjian, and essays by leading experts.

Recommended to anyone seeking a complete guide to the world of bronze and brass artworks, Poppy explains that the beautifully written essays, the artwork images, and relative historical and geographical context, make "Bronze 2012" an important source of knowledge. The catalogue is exhaustive in its overview of the periods in which works of art in bronze flourished: ancient Greece and Rome, the European Renaissance, and the late 19th century through the modern era, and its inclusion of all the major artists who worked in the medium, from Ghiberti, Donatello, Cellini, and, later, Giambologna, to Rodin, Boccioni, Picasso, Johns, Giacometti, and Moore to Beuys and Bourgeois.

Poppy Field is figurative sculptor, (Florence Academy of Art) with a background in the History of Art (Courtauld). Following a fourth year at the FAA as Graduate in Residence for sculpture (2018-19), Poppy returned to the UK where she is now working on her first major public commission.
