Art Talk w/ Mitch Shea - River God

A video feature on FAA's Director of the Sculpture Drawing Program

Dear Patrons,

This week on The FAA Collective we would like to present you with a video featuring artist Mitch Shea.

Mitch is an American sculptor and draftsman born in Augusta, Georgia 1987. He attended the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California from 2007-2010 where he studied Illustration, Metalworking, and worked on a variety of public monuments in the Bay Area. In 2011 he relocated to Florence, Italy and began studying Sculpture and Drawing at The Florence Academy of Art. During his study he was awarded numerous accolades and as a student began teaching in 2013.

Mitch is now Director of the Sculpture Program at The Florence Academy of Art. He also holds regular artist residencies in Greece and Cyprus. His works accommodate a multitude of priorities; namely, a deep commitment to observing and engaging a subject in order to produce works that contain some of the gravity and physicality of the natural world. He is keen to work in environments which are composed of striations of historical epochs that draw from both Eastern and Western cultural milieus. His work may be found in private collections throughout the United States, Europe, and the Middle East.

In this video we enter the artist’s psyche through his own eloquent expression of his artistic thought process and sources of inspiration. Specifically, how his deep connection to the historical tradition of figurative sculpture led to the creation of Shea’s 3/4 life size torso, 'River God'

The artwork, the artist's own words, the atmospheric visuals, and original music (produced by Telematik Guru) combine to present an in depth vision of sculptor, Mitch Shea.
