3D Model Haven + Dark Theme

In case you missed it, last week we finally launched our 3rd sister site, 3D Model Haven.

Just like HDRI Haven, it provides 100% free high quality CC0 content for 3d artists, this time full 3D assets complete with PBR maps, ready to import into your 3D software of choice.

3D Model Haven has its own separate Patreon page if you want to support what's going on there - all content there is funded through the patreon, so we rely on your support to make or acquire new models. We were fortunate enough to be granted a $10k grant from Epic Games for the initial content on the site, but this has long since been used up.

On a related note, while building 3D model haven I worked on a new dark theme for HDRI Haven at the same, which is live now :) A similar theme will also come to Texture Haven soon.

In addition to just visual changes, there are some functional changes too:

The sidebar now displays the top 15 most-used tags in each category, which should make it a bit easier to find exactly what you're looking for more quickly.

There's also a new download option for the 8K tonemapped JPG version of each HDRI in case you want it for some reason (don't use this for lighting) - and soon you'll start to notice some new HDRIs also include a Macbeth color checker chart which has been processed in the same way as the HDRI itself, allowing you to do some advanced color matching with your renders or other footage.

For some HDRIs we record the GPS coordinates, mostly for fun, though they can also be used along with the timestamp to determine the exact solar properties for cardinal alignment if that's your thing. These HDRIs are now also displayed on an interactive map page:

Once the world begins to recover from this nasty pandemic, I hope to start organizing another major trip to fill in some of the gaps on this map :)
