I think part of the reason this film isn't more popular is the fact that, like Disney's Hunchback, it's doing two disparate things: the humour is absurd and OTT but the story is dark and tragic.
BTW, the guy who played The Duke is the same one who was Dracula in the Van Helsing film. More to point, he played Sherlock Holmes in a version of Hound of the Baskervilles. Mostly, it's a bit average but Richard E Grant as Stapleton is /fantastic/. I highly recommend it.

Thank you so much for doing this James. You guys do so much for us and we are truly grateful :) I hope Nick didn't suffer too much...I can't really tell if he liked it haha. Ironically, I think this was even too 'tragic' for him 😂😂. I do wonder if you changed your mind about this film during editing or if this is definitely not your kind of film?

idk why I didn't think of this, but my biggest accidental screw up on stage was during my second production of Jesus Christ Superstar. I was cast as Mary Magdalene which was a huge step up from the first time I was in the show. I had just been in the ensemble and one of Herod's dancers the first time, so I was crazy nervous. In one (well, many scenes were like this, but I'm talking about one in particular) we were supposed to be all sitting around getting drunk. Practically the opening scene. The stage was simple, one long top tier across the back of the stage about 5-6 feet tall, then on the left (and mirrored on the right with a large maybe 20 foot gap between them) there were two more levels, the second maybe 3 feet tall, and the first just over a foot tall. Then just the bare stage. Now that you've got an idea of what it looked like, I walked in on the top level, the guy playing Jesus was on the stage floor in the gap between the two sides. I took one step down the stairs to the second level and just...toppled over. Thankfully the guy playing JC saw what was happening and managed to catch me mid fall, then I had to break out into song so I was a little breathless from that whole ordeal. This was on opening night and I was mortified. The director loved it though, since it fit into the whole "be drunk idiots" thing we had going on. And since it happened on opening night, she made me do it again and again for the rest of the shows. *facepalm*

Always love Ewan McGregor. That chair story is impressive. Yes Nicole kidman's wardrobe was beautiful in this. Another musical that has some really nice outfits, in my opinion anyway, is Chicargo (don't know if any of you guys have seen that though).

Also fun fact, Audrey (the character who quit writing the play at the beginning) is played by David Wenham, who plays Faramir in the Lord of the Rings ☺️

Did you guys know the actor who plays Harold Zidler is Jim Broadbent, who also plays Prof. Slughorn in Harry Potter.

I was a lost boy in a Junior High school musical production of Peter Pan. I was an entire scene early for my cue😳😬 I just pretended like I was tired and laid down behind Wendy and Peter for a nap. God I was mortified but I held my own😉 my story wasn’t as bad as Peter’s was on opening night🤦🏻♀️ Even though it was junior high it was treated like a true Broadway production with dance numbers huge sets, the choir director handles the entire casts singing, art department worked on sets, we even had wire handlers to make the cast fly. The wires were signaled by pulling on them. One pull for up and two for down. Peter pulled the wire before he was hooked on and the crew pulled the wire up. He was dangling in the air from his hands😂(not far) when the wire finally came back down it was still to high for Peter to hook himself on so he turns to Wendy and says out loud “ Wendy would you help me”?

I remember watching this when it first came out. Baz Lurhmann's stylization is something else. It's amazing how both Rent and Moulin Rouge did their own unique spins on La Boheme.

I actually really hated this musical when I first saw it, but I thought I'd give it another try because I love the reactions y'all do. It's better than I remembered it being, but it's not in my top 10-15 favorite musicals either lol

Looks like Thor pulled the short straw. I wasn’t one insisting you guys react to this. Your channel, your choices. I do think it’s a great film, though, so I’m excited all the same. Thanks!

Hey Nick! I haven't really watched any of your solo reactions because you have only really done disney movies alone, and i had a super good time watching Moulin Rouge with you. I know it's been a heated discussion around here, and i'm not going to touch on it but I just wanted to give you a shout out on your solo reaction!
