A cross between a neko and a melkai, the aptly named catshark is a rare sight, to the point where it is considered a myth by most mortals. Catsharks are typically born both from and into tragic circumstances involving 'relationships' between melkai and neko that are either scandalous, horrific, and/or brief. Melkai consider them inferior ocean hunters due to their neko ears, which are a liability when submerged. Meanwhile, neko consider catsharks to be just as untrustworthy as pureblooded melkai, and cast out any catsharks born from neko mothers shortly after they are born. Left in a difficult in-between state, not quite optimized for hunting on land nor sea, and without protection and support from any race, it is no wonder that only the most abnormally resourceful, ruthless, and instinct-driven catsharks reach adulthood. This means that those that do survive tend to become some of the most dangerous killers, pirates, assassins, and gladiators in all Imperium. If a catshark learns to take advantage of its unique set of combined traits, it can track down quarry across an unparalleled variety of environments using its suite of powerful senses, and it is capable of hunting and overpowering foes far larger and stronger than itself with deadly speed and efficiency. And because almost all adult catsharks keep not only the voracious appetites and stretchy skin of their melkai ancestors, but also the ambition and spite necessary for them to have survived in the first place, the largest and most powerful foes are almost always their preferred prey. A catshark rarely shies away from a chance to prove its superiority and dominate an unprepared opponent, making them highly sought after fighters among Imperium's least scrupulous underground fighting rings and arenas.
