Dragonball Z should have featured more interaction between Goku and Master Roshi. I understand that Goku eventually gained new masters along the way but there was always something special between Goku and Roshi; even a small training arc with Roshi, Krillin, Goku, and Gohan where Gohan could experience some of the turtle school training before the Cell Games could have added more oomf to the moment. I loved Dragonball's initial focus on Martial Arts and I felt like Gohan didn't get enough of that... he just got like the Demon and Mystic stuff.

Goku having to come in and steal Gohan's thunder in the Buu saga did almost permanent damage to the character and made him less of what he could have been. Like a modern day wrestler getting buried by a veteran wrestler. It really sucks and while I understand why Goku needed to be brought back and made the center of attention, it doesn't make my GOAT getting permanerfed any less painful.

Might be late but here's a few Hot Take: Jiren is a actually well written, he is a counter to Goku's journey specifically and want the same thing for different reasons the only issue is how it was executed as he basically just let himself lose by not going all out and was kept mysterious on purpose for entertainment, he's also very much an alien 👽 (looks exactly like that but buff) with how he isn't a villain or a hero just on a path that people like to imagine Goku seeking The loneliness at the top like Goku would eventually reach but no one wants to actually see. Jiren is the main character of his universe and it sucks to be him, but people also don't want Goku to be a mentor. Could just be me but I saw him as a character in Dragon Ball that shouldn't exist but is introduced as a theme, a theme that might've been saying that Goku should focus on his friends and family more that gave him his strength rather than just seeking power. Hot Take: Roshi having "ultra instinct" makes sense to me even against Jiren. He has the most fighting experience than any other Z fighter and probably most in the tournament, he is a martial artist and not some suped up alien bastard or warrior so he would be more in touch with fighting hand to hand itself rather than wide scale attacks so common in strong beings to conquer planets, win wars, defeat monsters. I don't think it's a power scaling issue either because Jiren underestimated him and couldn't kill him and was probably caught off guard by the attack also. It's totally fine in my opinion, it's supposed to be a technique and not a form anyway. Shieet you even see people with stuff like than in real life. Hot Take: Human characters are not underused and don't "deserve" upgrades, honestly I'm tired their power ups being contrived. after the T.O.P they all have very happy lives and don't need to be punching God's, Krillin is a great husband/ has a robo wife and has a nice daughter, Tien is now a master (hell yeah) and has a dojo, yamcha is still a middle age playboy so who could complain. Not every character should be the obsessed bastards like Goku and Vegeta buddy buddy with gods. Piccolo and Gohan are fine ig after super I just hope they just become guardians of earth like intended. all they need to shine is good writing opponents they can handle at their power level that would be up to the enemy groups introduced with a few new techniques they could all learn at their own pace just living life while sometimes training. No big god ki buff or otherworld training required to give a brand new chump a wolf fang fist to save a pretty lady. Hot Take: The Cell Saga is the worst saga, it's still good it introduces complex themes and more sci-fi and a very natural enemies like cell and the RR army BUT whether it was Toriyama being pressured and constantly changing it seems to run out of steam in the cell games, all of them train in the brief window Vegeta actually harms cell before most go into the time chamber again and they all equally get beat to near death by vaguely strong all similar cell jr. The lack of an actual tournament bothers me so much especially it being Vegeta's, Gohan and Trunks first tournament. The cell jr.s Should've been unique and growing in that window to mirror the training the z fighters were doing but that is a lot to ask for an author and publisher with whatever was going on, 3 super Saiyans being introduced with no nuance to obtainment or hybrids is also kinda bugging me but when goten and trunks get it in buu saga it's suddenly a bargain sale? Vegeta in space is also very underutilized as it could actually be him fighting looking for Goku and going super Saiyan in a unique way losing his mind... Perhaps returning as a..green...buff.. and... legendary.. very angry Saiyan... yelling... Carrot.. ?(Too much to ask for ik) Hot Take: As a Vegeta Stan I acknowledge that he is one of the worse handled characters ever but should be overshadowed by Bulma, Bulma seeing the fresh brutality of Vegeta and still banging him in like a week is horrendous and makes her awful, she might have a thing for aliens and Vegeta for strong women but poor Yamcha and everyone seeing this and accepting it and her behavior in super just makes her almost unrecognizable from the sensitive girl in the Saiyan saga mourning Yamcha regardless of cheating or not. Trunks should've been a future exclusive when they bond with the android attacks and that sentiment could bleed into the current timeline with the reveal. I love Vegeta but he's a bum, he should've been in space getting stuff for her fighting remnants of Frieza force until plot relevance, training as a he lived as a Saiyan. Hot Take: (Granola Arc Manga Bardocks wish/ Goku plot armor retcon) Bardock wishing for "his sins to thrive" is actually amazing. Hear me out, I believe the series starting with a wish that mightve guided Goku to earth/Grampa Gohan and saved Raditz from Planet Vegeta is actually very profound. It's like the series named Dragon Ball was only possible because of Dragon Balls and also the sequel Z with Raditz, yes it is in technically in canon plot armor but a wish starting Goku journey in dragon Ball and letting Raditz introduce Z because of a wish long ago is very thematically satisfying. I believe it is even greater taking into account that Raditz and Goku died at the exact same time by a evil Namekian tied to dragon balls. Gohan being there also being family and saving them might also have some meaning but I don't want to add too much head canon but that is just something to think about. Their lives intertwined, dying together, one lived as a Saiyan the other as a Earthling both killed by a being that created the magic power that let them live and brought them together. Who gives a damn about plot armor compared to that poetry

I agree with this take tho

Okay I have a few but I'll only put one to save time. This used to not be a hot take but due to the fandom just latching onto the most popular DB youtubers opinion it is one now. SSJ3 is not a useless form. A very important part of Gokus character development is the pursuit of strength. Every arc/saga has him pursue getting stronger be it through training with king kai before Vegeta and Nappa arrive or training in the time chamber with Gohan before the fight with Cell. Goku having SSJ3 represents going beyond his limits and gaining further heights in his strength. This is a far better way to handle Gokus time in other world then rather just have him show up with SSJ2 and achieve nothing else. Because that's not in Gokus character, he would want to go even further. Even if he never went back to earth Goku would still train and want to gain further strength. A common complaint about SSJ3 is the fact that it wasn't used against Majin Vegeta. I find that to be a bit of a dumb complaint because it was even said by Goku that SSJ3 is a newer form that he's rusty with and consumes a lot of energy. It wouldn't make sense to use it against Vegeta. Even if he did, what would it achieve? Vegeta feels slightly worse about himself? That's stupid and it would've wasted even more time then they were already wasting in the Buu Saga. Even if SSJ3 was an ass-pull by Toryiama, It was a well written ass-pull that was a good way for the characters to catch up to buu's strength even if they were still at an overall disadvantage.

My hot take is that I have no problem with Caulifla and the other Saiyans in Universe 6 gaining Super Saiyan so easily. If the Super Saiyan form was only obtainable through rage, like many would suggest when I ask them about this issue, then the Saiyans of Universe 7 would have gotten it sooner. It was only because of Goku’s pure heart and the help of his friends that he was able to tap into his inner strength and unlock the form, leading others to do it with more ease time after time. For Goten and Trunks who lived during a period of peace, it was very easy to unlock. For Saiyans of a different universe that had long since changed from their evil ways and lived in generations of peace, it should be just as easy as it was for Goten and Trunks They just needed to know it was possible in the first place and had one of the best teachers possible to help them.

Yayy I like the hot takes. It's nice to hear Poo's opinions. Hot take: Videl was a better character before getting together with Gohan. Her suspicious and keen observations of Gohan's character was a much more interesting dynamic and she maintained her unique personality and style. Once she became enamoured with Gohan and subsided her sleuthing and detective work, she became largely a mere extension of Gohan (not to mention her maternal activities). actually I don't really think this is a hot take? Let me try to think of another one
