The BTS team counts down our favorite films of 1999.

I only now figured out how to add a new line. Oops. Sorry. After those top three, things are kind of up in the air. I love the Iron Giant and Toy Story 2. There's a film that has been recommended a lot which I haven't yet seen, and I wonder if it would be a contender: Audition. Thank you for these recordings. You guys are great!

Now that I've finally joined your Patreon, I can go back and listen to all these old podcasts. There's something very comforting about listening to the four of you talk about movies. I can only list my top 3 of 1999:

Cherie

I just joined the Patreon. Is it possible to make these older episodes available for download?

#1 Fight Club #2 American Beauty #3 The Green Mile #4 The Matrix #5 Eyes Wide Shut #6 Boys Don't Cry #7 The Insider

Question: Is this episode not showing up on the patron-only exclusives feed or is it just me? Here's my list: 5. Princess Mononoke, which was released in Japan in '97 but didn't have a US release until '99. If that disqualifies it from the 1999 list, The Thomas Crown Affair. 4. Being John Malkovich. 3. Fight Club 2. The Matrix 1. Office Space

This year was indeed remarkable and unique in terms of quality releases :) My top 5 is set by how these movies affected me emotionally when I saw them, and also how I still feel about them today: 1) The Matrix 2) 10 Things I Hate About You 3) Fight Club 4) Sixth Sense 5) The Talented Mr. Ripley Honorable mentions: 6) Sleepy Hollow 7) Magnolia 8) The Green Mile

I was born in 1989 so I was ten in ‘99. 1) The Mummy 2) The Matrix 3) Stuart Little 4) Toy Story 2 5) The 6th Sense 6) Fight Club - if I didn’t watch Stuart Little so much as a kid this would be top 5. Honestly, Pokémon 2000 needs to be on this list and Inspector Gadget but if I think too long on this, I’ll never decide.

Don’t look under the bed! Underrated for sure.

I was born in 98 and I feel I have a lot of great movies from this year to catch up on but at this time I’d have to say my personal 5 are: 1) The Iron Giant 2) Toy Story 2 3) The Sixth Sense 4) Magnolia 5) The Insider

1. Office space 2. 10 things I hate about you 3. Talented mr. Ripley 4. Fight club 5. Blair witch project 6. Cruel intentions 7. Varsity blues

Guys, I need to know what is your combined top 15 of ‘90-‘99 list!

Joel Lehtonen

I was born in 99, so these movies I watched at various points in my life. Some with family, and some later on when I started developing my passion for film. 1. Fight Club (my favourite film of all time: it was the movie that got me into movies. 14 year old me was blown away) 2. American Beauty 3. The Matrix 4. Three Kings 5. American Pie (guilty pleasure...pls don't judge me) I haven't seen Being John Malkovich, Boys Don't Cry, or The Insider. So most likely my list will update in the upcoming years

Born I 96 and I only have 5 which I have enough of a memory to comment on. Ranked as follows: 1) Iron Giant 2) Toy Story 2 3) Matrix 4) Sixth Sense 5) Phantom Menace We didn't watch many movies as a family until later in my life so Phantom Menace was one of the first movies I ever saw at all and probably my first theater experience.

FANTASIA 2000!! Utterly gorgeous

Tricia Aurand

Born in '92, my top 5 as follows: 5. Don't Look Under the Bed 4. Fantasia 2000 3. The Virgin Suicides 2. Fight Club 1. The Iron Giant

Rachel C

Oh yea, the Sixth Sense was in 1999... Goodbye Star Wars.

Kevin Dublin

So many great movies that year!! Excited to listen to this. Mine are: 5. Star Wars: The Phantom Menace 4. The Mummy 3. Being John Malkovich 2. Galaxy Quest 1. The Matrix Special shootouts to: Big Daddy, South Park Bigger Longer and Uncut, The Virgin Suicides, Magnolia, & Life (I da pappy!)

Kevin Dublin

44 year-old with an admittedly anti-90s bias (the 80s were my formative years). I would need to rewatch everything to see which movies I enjoy most today, but here’s a top 5 limited to movies that weren’t on any of the BTS lists: - Virgin Suicides - The Limey - Existenz - Eyes Wide Shut - Never Been Kissed

Dan Hoy

I was born in 2001. Here's mine: 5. Office Space 4. Magnolia 3. Bringing Out the Dead 2. Eyes Wide Shut 1. The Matrix (because of course it is)

1994 baby here, so I was 5 years old at the time and the only movies I had seen were probably Toy Story 2 and The Iron Giant. But watching the rest of these movies at a later time (and many times) these are my 5 favorites from 1999: The Matrix The Mummy The Green Mile American Beauty The Sixth Sense
