Patron-exclusive Episode: The Prestige

To round out our month of all-Nolan all-the-time, here is the episode you voted for—The Prestige!

We had a wonderful time talking about the film's unique structure, how the film serves as an allegory for film-making, and our own personal relationships with the idea of "the obsessed artist."

Hope you enjoy, and thanks for supporting Beyond the Screenplay!

Interesting discussion. I am not a fan of magic, but the film was pretty to look at:). The problem with mage is it's not magic. I am more impressed when told how the trick is done. Guess that is why of all magicians I do like Penn and Teller, And, really, what kind of "trick'" is smashing a defenseless little bird every day.

Guys I'm convinced it's James Purefoy in some of those shots for Hugh Jackmen's double. Not all, but some at the bar it really feels like the film has played another trick on us and you can't tell for sure.

I'm 2 weeks into my freshman year of college, and the discussion about the concept of the "obsessed artist" is exactly what I needed right now :) as always the team is super engaging and informative, thanks all!

I absolutely LOVE this movie! When I heard you were doing this as a Patreon exclusive is when I decided I was getting on here lol I think the sympathetic and more protagonist-like character is the Borden that was married and wasn’t as obsessive about the tricks and being bigger and better, he was content and then it all fell apart around him

Absolutely loved this episode, glad to know this movie is as good as I remembered it being! Need to rewatch asap. Keep up the awesome work, guys :)
