Spy Game, please!

Among some of the ones I suggested I included Grave of the Fireflies. Get ready for the tears.

May I suggest that if the suggested movies break into categories or genre of 5 or so, that we vote accordingly? For example, one vote session is for westerns, another for crime thrillers, romance, sci fi, music, etc. I’ve submitted a few in each and it’d be nice to focus the vote. Or at least I’d be happy with a “Roger Deakins as DP” vote.

Any of the Tarantino movies Cool Hand Luke City of God Toy Story 2001:A Space Odyssey 🙂👍

Call me by your name!

Can we do something way different like Monos (2019) please - a Columbia inspired ghostly allegory filmed above the clouds. Alejandro Landes says it was "heavily scripted", but the filmmaking is entirely audio/visual and feels script-less. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this kind of film/filmmaking that manages to be so authentic :D

Second for Mystic River.

Bixby Snyder

I second Eastern Promises but I would go for Eastwood’s Unforgiven.

Have you guys done any Eastwood films? Mystic River would be a cool character study. Cronenberg’s Eastern Promises too - really enjoying the pod, keep up the great word 🙏🏽👏🏽

How about "Tiptoes"? :D

Something bad or like average bad. I like that you're usually positive, but I want to hear you talk about something from the slush pile. Like Despicable Me, or Fast and Furious, maybe even as bad as the Emoji movie.

Back to the Future. Most tightly written screenplay ever!

I think some film noir would be really welcome: Touch of Evil, The Maltese Falcon, Double Indemnity, Dark City (for some sci-fi neo-noir). A Miyazaki movie would also be super interesting...

Whiplash

Sent this along in the Google doc, but wanted to soap box here as well: I would LOVE (<3 <3 <3) to hear an episode on Maren Ade's phenomenal and absolutely singular "Toni Erdmann," a 3-hour German comedy that is so much more than that description makes it sound. No movie that made me cry-laugh this hard has also moved me so much. Interestingly (and thankfully, in my mind), it narrowly missed being remade starring Jack Nicholson and Kirsten Wiig as the father and daughter, with Lena Dunham producing (this convergence of people makes no sense to me either).
