I agree—that really is a huge strength of both these movies; the aliens never feel any less dangerous. There's definitely something lost in an otherwise great sequel like Aliens where characters can now manage to survive an onslaught of dozens of aliens compared to a single alien in the first movie (which was nearly un-killable). AQP 2 was wise to keep the scale small and the stakes high.

Ok so I’ve got a lot of thoughts and counter arguments to a lot of what you guys are saying, but one of the things I admire about this film is the power level of the aliens. I compare this a lot to Aliens in how good of a sequel it is, but one of the things it does better than Aliens is it still makes the aliens feel threatening. Like, 1 alien is still really dangerous. You can’t just eviscerate them like in Aliens. Despite giving them the weakness of water, they still feel 80-90% as powerful as the first, which I find really really impressive
