Also, for my money, it’s the best 3rd act/payoff of the series. Also also, the opera scene is up there with the Langley Heist from 1 for best scenes in the series. I just love the flow of the whole set piece, and how it evolves, almost in real time, and the impossible puzzle he figures out at the last second.

2023-07-04 00:13:06 +0000 UTCYou’ve kept asking throughout these episodes, what makes Ethan Hunt different from Jason Bourne or James Bond or any prototypical spy? And, to sum it up, so far you’ve basically said the answer is, “He cares about human life. He cares about those he trusts and he cares about his team.” In Rogue Nation, we see the proof of that, not through Ethan himself, but through the those around him. This is a movie without an IMF. They get shut down. Disavowed. It’s just Ethan on his own tracking down the Syndicate. And his team gradually builds because each person chooses to stay and help. They only show up because they reciprocate that care and loyalty that Ethan has shown them. So at the end, when Brandt, Luther, Benji, and now Ilsa are all with Ethan and he says, “Meet the IMF,” we now know truly who Ethan is.

2023-07-04 00:08:34 +0000 UTCIs rogue Nation the best cold open out of the series? I think we underestimated the quality of marketing that fallout had compared to the rest of the series. Fallout's marketing really showcased the mission impossible series being fun and cool, but it also showcased the characters and use of Henry Cavill during the whole Justice League debacle.
