Yeah I know I may have my blinders on a little bit since I loved the entirety of Andor so much, but I think that you guys could have put a little more stock into characters wrestling with ideas as "action." For example, Mon in the wedding arc is very much struggling with the idea of "We have to Live to get this work done." Capital L live, not just survive. She sees the relationship with her daughter (which she tries to save, unsuccessfully) and the potential relationship with Tay (which is shattered by him suddenly changing his tune about the money) as paths to that Life she still might get to have. When those possibilities are stripped away, she gives in to that abandon (yes in the dance scene) and shows up in the next arc without any notion of "I could still have a normal Life." Sounds like solid development to me.

2025-09-06 21:04:16 +0000 UTCI think Cassian has to be sorta wayward and unlikeable in the first few episodes of season one, because his character has to have somewhere to go, grow from. It's not so dissimilar from Han Solo's arc from self serving it-is-what-it-is outlaw to rebel helping directly to dismantle the empire. The show has to establish Cassian is a bit of a jerk, but a jerk with potential. I don't think we are supposed to like him, I think we are supposed to like the community, and like Marva, hope Andor learns he can have a real place /in/ it, not just surviving on the fringe. He can't fully connect with Ferrix becuase he has this hope his sister is alive, that part of his old life is still out there to reclaim. He can't have either, becuase he won't commit. And Star Wars location/settings always seem small, that's not an Andor problem, it's franchise wide. Like Ferrix is one town, or an entire planet? We always only see one biome per planet too, as if there are no other earth like planets where each continent has unique deserts, mountains, and plains. The lack of natural diversity on individual planets is weird, the fact that each planet is only ever given one city/location is weird. Those limitations are driven by outside factors like budget, but they still contribute to the "smallness" felt while watching. Planets should have multiple industries, cultures, and habitats even just mentioned to feel grounded in reality. Also several series have block structures now where it's pretty clear each 3 episode arc is really just one movie with snack breaks built in. Arcane being another recent example of this format. I wait for a show to be out before I watch it, and I imagine many busy folks do the same, save a show for a binge as opposed to expect a sitcom format one and done. Mando does those tight one episode bam under 40 minutes dealios and suffers greatly for it. Also Vel/Cinta: Cassian tells Luthen the rebels on Gorman are not ready, Luthen's like "great, I need a real mess". Therefore Luthen is willing to lose Vel and Cinta towards that cause, and Cinta's death is as much on Luthen as that random kid. This should effect Vel's relationship with Luthen and the rebellion of course, but the show didn't have a ton of time for Vel in general in season 2 so ehhhh. Could have given me more Vel/Cinta in the wedding arc. It would have been interesting to contrast Vel's on again off again (and possibly forbidden?) relationship against the traditional wedding. What were the cultural expectations for Vel versus how she has chosen to live.

2025-08-30 05:52:37 +0000 UTCThe first arc of each season was mixed for me. I didn't really care about the kids in s1 or the Yavin stuff in s2, but I kinda love the wedding. It sets up the players and positions on the board, so to speak, and by the end I'm right there with Mon dancing our troubles away.
