Earth, "Home"

California was first visited by the Spanish in 1542, shortly after Cortes brought horses to The America's. The Spanish occupied the land that actually was already home to Native Americans. Native Americans are not only from the United States. North America hosts 23 countries, all of which were already populated by Native Americans. The Spanish set up a settlement in San Diego and began the "Christianizing" of a brilliant people who already knew how to live happily, had their own spiritual beliefs that served them, and had learned to live WITH not on the land. California was claimed as a Spanish territory, then in 1821 the people of California fought for their Independence and became a Mexican province. As more European immigrants came to Mexico's California, and with the Discovery of Gold as well as many other resources, European immigrants in California fought to become independent of Mexico and started the "Bear Flag Revolt" claiming California as an Independent Republic. It was short lived as in 1850 California joined the Union as a state. California has been and has become home to many people. It's a beautiful place to live, and every human on earth should have the option to live here. I'm incredibly grateful that my Polish, Serbian, Austrian, Irish, German, French, English ancestors immigrated to North America and one of them met Jim Thorpe, a distant Native American relative of mine. If I was born anywhere else on the Earth, I would move here, to Sonoma County. If I were born in Mexico, I would come to Sonoma County, my ancestors home. California has a long history of welcoming people from other countries, I wouldn't be here if not, and most likely neither would most of you. To close immigration now is to not be Californian, it breeds racism, separatism, Jealousy and then hate.
When you were a kid was there ever another child who had something fantastic and refused to share it and everyone hated them? Is it so hard to believe that closing borders to the United States is one of the biggest reasons we are targeted by "terrorists"? What if that kid had the resources to take your toys too, and then offered to rent them back to you at a rate you couldn't afford? Wouldn't that make you furious at his selfish behavior?
I have radical beliefs like the people of Earth are one, and should all be free together. We were born to an Earth which gives us food, water and shelter and the only true price is the effort it took to collect the water, farm the land and build the shelter. With a universal educational system with a focus on emotional intelligence, independent thinking skills and solution oriented creative concepts, we could all share the Earth in peace and gratitude and feel the joy that comes from sharing experiences, building others up, the satisfaction of overcoming challenges to better our lives.
Somewhere, likely back in Kindergarten we were taught there's not enough to go around (aka if you're lazy you'll have to figure out how to manipulate people into doing your work) and that scarcity mindset really fucked people up and made them do awful things to each other.
I welcome the future and see in it our genius ability to create renewable resources, to upcycle what we've got into something even better. I believe in Earth and its people, and bringing to our attention the contrast of where we are and where we want to be is a beautiful catalyst of making the changes we want to see. Just please don't forget to post the "where we want to be" just as often, if not more so than "where we are". You get what you think about, whether it's something you want or not. Let's think up a beautiful new human social life on Earth. Not just in The USA, not just in Syria or Somalia, but together as Earthians(?). We all operate as humans and our needs are the same regardless of the culture we were born into.
I hear "globalization" used as a bad word. Yes, when it comes to massive corporations driving out small businesses, which are what uphold a communities culture. Yes, when rich selfish pricks buy up the rights to a natural resource which should freely nourish the community which is local to it. Yes, when one group forces its beliefs on another group just to cover their insecurity in having their beliefs challenged. But as for the mixing of regular people, that's evolution, and that's how we end racism. In the horse world (and dog world) you see a lot of "purebreds" with health problems and major functional physical flaws. Mixed breeds, however, they get the best of all breed characteristics. My horse Addicus has the power and large feet of his draft horse Percheron Mother, but the speed and agility of his Quarter Horse Father. They're evolving to become better, and so will we. Let's celebrate the best pieces of every community and bring into our minds and hearts the endlessly fascinating variety of stories we have to tell and ideas we have to give. I'm SO excited for the future of humanity!
