COMMISSION QUEUE: 0/5 completed
'bout time i got around to this. commissions are for the $25 tier and on special occasions, the $15 tier.
every month 25's get 3 "points," and 15's get 1 "point" whenever stated. $10 patrons also conceptually get a point in the form of a thank you doodle.
points are just a shorthand way of saying "an hour of work."
i usually charge $10/hour + transfer costs for commissions off of patreon when i do them, so 25's pay ~60% of what i'd normally charge, 15's pay ~the average amount, deducting at least $5 for the bottom tier rewards they also get.
unspent credit from pledges doesn't expire even if you drop to a lower or drop off your subscription completely.
anyway, onto the process itself:
-starting at the beginning of the month, you can send me details about a request you have, via the patreon messaging system, at my e-mail
i prefer them within the first week of the month, but anything submitted after the 14th of a month will also be accepted; it just might not be finished before the end of the month instead of the beginning half of next month.
- if i have questions or you asked me for clarification, i'll follow up. if i don't respond at all, you can safely assume it'll be finished by the end of the month.
- commissions are due on the last day of the month. if yours is expected to be late, i'll have discussed it beforehand with you.
- you don't have to ask for something that'll spend all your points every month, or even ask for something every month at all.
- i usually only take 1 commission per patron every month even if they have points saved, for the sake of my schedule.
- if you have a large commission that took several months to save for (ex: like, a reference or a comic), i prefer advance notice or an extended deadline, also for the sake of my schedule.
general idea of how point calculations go:
-sketching a full body figure = ~1 hour (1 point)
-head/bust shots and cartoony full bodies = ~30 minutes (half a point)
-lines + flat colors = ~1 hour (1 point)
-shading + simple background details = ~1-1.5 hours (1 point)
so 3 points is enough for something like: one fully rendered 1-character piece a month, a sketch page w/a full-body shot and 4 bust shots, a flat-color picture of 2 characters, etc.
conversely things like character references (2 flat-color full bodies with as-necessary detail and head shots) would take ~6 hours, or 2 months; a hypothetical comic page sketch the size of an average drop-out page would take ~12-15 hours, or 4-5 months; and so on.
i'm usually not too stingy about point calculation, it's really just an estimate so that you can tell what level of detail is fair to request.
other misc. info:
- there's not a lot of subject matter i won't/can't draw unless it's something i'd find morally uncomfortable, so you don't really have to ask me if it's something i'll draw before giving me more details!
- it's just a preference, but sending any examples of things i've drawn before that you especially liked or wanted something similar to is always a plus to me.
- if you want a sketch or specific progress stages for pre-approval before completion, please mention it with your request. if not specified, i may send you a sketch to be approved, or i may only send you the finished product, based on my discretion.
- on the note of progress updates, please do not ask me for general progress updates, my schedule for commissions between comics, streams, concept & story development, and uncategorized art is very tightly wound, and i do commissions in the order of when i feel i'm mentally at my best to do them.
- you can post any art for you anywhere you want and modify it in any way you want w/o my prior permission, it's yours, and i might not even publicly post it anywhere myself.
- after a commission is completed, i allow up to 3 edit requests, and if a sketch was pre-approved for the commission, only 1 edit.
- the points list on here is no longer updated, upon a few requests for privacy, so if you wanna know how many you have saved or anything like that, you can feel free to shoot me a question and i'll do the math for you.
that's about it! thanks, everybody.
