well... here it is. i decided to send out the first page at 9 pm EST to be nice, because i know 3 am is pretty late; don't get too used to it.
what i re-learned while making this comic page: full-color comics with a minimum of 15 panels take a really long fucking time to make. i have, currently, one sketch of a buffer, between dressing up the site, tightening all of the main cast's designs, and finishing the basic skeleton of the script.
the optional updates to the side comics for the $15 tier will likely be passed over for a bit to give myself the time to continue sketching pages for fresh meat.
for this page itself: the script was originally written to have 2 nurses. the second nurse was planned to be relevant on page 3. the dialog was barely changed, though; i felt "doctor" was more fitting for the lines, and wrote in a different context for a second nurse to show up on page 2 instead.
fun fact: those of you who read OBYKI might notice that this is the same hospital that lola was treated at for her broken arm, several years after this comic's canonical dates.
in the first side comic i ever published, with lola and devon, she mentions that sugar was the one who pressed to take lola to a hospital, implying that sugar decided which hospital to take her to. even so, in OBYKI, you can see that sugar is passively hostile towards the staff, and aware of their routine procedures enough to question them.
it would serve as good context to take the fact that sugar chose this hospital to care for lola as evidence that her treatment in this comic was the kindest and most professional.
