sugar reminded me of outis here with the rambling... must be the ADHD.
this should wrap up in about 2-3 pages. when i write outlines or summaries comics, they contain "beats" to hit -- mandatory parts of the story, usually thematic, but sometimes by necessity for the plot.
the beats left here are roughly "being grown up when you don't feel like you even had a childhood" and "found family."
there's a decent amount of development for both lola and sugar in this page. although this comic focuses on lola's growth, sugar's growth is implicit in her characterization. it's been interesting to write.
the story is probably about lola because she has yet to find a satisfying answer to her problems, so she's started to look externally, whereas sugar seems to have spent a lot of time silently reconciling.
there are some smaller details i liked in the dialogue here as well... like lola picking a battle in her head and deciding to obviate and redirect. an old habit. and the fact that both of them knew what the word "antithetical" meant. i really enjoy when characters occasionally use very articulate words in casual conversation; it lends to the unstated emotional depth of an interaction by implying some necessary specificity.
it'll be interesting to go back and reread lola's actions in this comic with sugar's insight in this scene.
