here's another tutorial from way back when (july, apparently).
this one i have a hard time calling a tutorial because i can't really walk anyone through how to self-talk step by step like i could an art progress. i did my best to make it informative and encouraging nonetheless.
this tutorial was also rewritten and half drawn 3 separate times before this came to be. the iteration just before this i had some whack idea to draw a more conceptual/explanatory side on the right and just the process on the left... my brain thinks a lot better on food, suffice to say.
a couple of stray thoughts i didn't mention in the tutorial itself:
1) the "why" part isn't really important. you can talk to yourself or phrase questions whatever way you want as long as it gives you a plan to move forward. i even made a crack to my wife about how dupe reacted "constructively" the same way to a why question as the "what" in this folie a dupe strip:

i prefer "why" and "how" because those are intent and action to me.
2) technically you can make the critique portion of a critique sandwich a really long run-on sentences. implications of my own frequent run-ons aside, it's really up to you to understand the spirit of the self-praise exercise. i still highly recommend trying more positive self-talk as a challenge, as this is also commonly recommended basic CBT. i do HAVE to point out that technicality, though.
3) ALSO, while many points of art can be argued as technically correct, something i've found invaluable from stepping back for a bit when a piece is really frustrating me is asking myself "BUT IS IT WORTH IT?" yes, it might be imperfect, but the worth is additive, not subtractive like answering something wrong on a test, and time management is an art skill
that's about all i've got, sorry for only one update this week. i'm pleased to say that some of that time was spent working on a buffer for future fresh meat pages to avoid slipping into bad deadline hygiene again, and less pleased to say the other time spent was on failed apartment searches. we seem to keep running into this same problem where in the span of just a day or 2 they're already taken by somebody else.
