FaD strip: tender mercies, part 2

first part:  https://www.patreon.com/posts/fad-strip-tender-28379720

the second half turned out more monstrous in size than i thought it would... i got sloppy while trying to just finish it up, because i wanted it done before the month was out, even though i went into it telling myself i could have as much time as i want for personal projects. a single comic just doesn't feel like it can qualify as a project anymore sometimes.

i also experimented with the tones A LOT in the latter half for this one. i think this is the first comic i've done where dupe changes color. it was a little more challenging than i thought it'd be, because it's not something i usually pay attention to, so i have to kind of visualize what i think makes sense. this time, i had done a few different palettes for dupe in one tester panel and asked my wife how she could describe the "mood" of each palette... then i went off of that.
it's also really hard to pull subtler tone changes in the colors with simple palettes like this... but i had more range than i expected.

anyway. a lot of these strips end on notes that don't really offer closure. my life doesn't really seem to end in clean tidbits and motions akin to a tv show. the struggle for a unified sense of autonomy continues... gray feels like it breaches their autonomy to die unwillingly, dupe feels like it breaches their autonomy to be coerced into continuing suffering or participating in life.
