Added 2019-09-27 07:07:11 +0000 UTCi'm gonna have to take a rain check on the backgrounds for tonight... i was working on really pushing out as many commissions as i could in the backlog i have during the last week, and while that worked fine with the schedule...
what i forgot drawing for that long does is it can make your wrist hurt. mine started hurting two days ago. i'm not really the kind of person who likes to play chicken with mild wrist pain because i know it only gets worse from there.
i wanted to type a big thing here but the two things that i know very well make my wrist hurt very badly is typing at length because i have to type on my laptop in my lap, so i have to bend it at a weird angle, and writing/lettering for comics... this page was also very text-heavy. ;_;
i will say this page was edited somewhat extensively from the script because i knew what was left was missing something, needed to be altered due to the change in pacing in the previous page, and because i knew the rest of the conversation was too much for one page, but not enough for two full pages, if done another way. here it is (messy first draft ahoy):
i think it's also interesting for sugar to be saying what she is here because she isn't going to be released before a certain treatment period regardless of her behavior... i think she's at the age where she'll say something that isn't necessarily wholly honest or something she believes, but she's not really at the point where she's figured out she needs to say something comforting to somebody else, not to her (school and Facts are probably comforting for her as long as she can study at this point)
anyway, sorry, this is also a few minutes late, because i put my wrist brace on to type even this description, and it takes longer than i think it would to type.
(i think there's also a continuity error with the drumstick here that i didn't fix yet because she already set it down on the last page... for errors i don't catch until later in the process i just wait until the rest of the page is done to edit the .png directly.)

this page is absolutely lovely... i love the little puff of air from both kim and the snack bag at the end. 2x breath of relief

2019-09-27 17:37:03 +0000 UTCI like the use of contrasting layers of time here - literal clock time vs. how many days have passed in the narrative, vs. how long it's actually been since we saw her look at the clock on page 1. It's a nice play on how webcomics sit on the opposite end of the spectrum from movies/plays, which have to condense a lot of time passing into a few IRL hours...meanwhile, Kim's fear of being stuck here long-term is already a reality for readers, who have known her exclusively in this context for some time. I really like this aspect of webcomics; it allows my understanding of characters to change significantly as the story plays out at a pace relative to my own life rather than squeezed into an afternoon.
