fresh meat, page 74 (shaded)

EDIT: shading is done now.

yes, i am back, and i managed to sketch out, line, and color this page within the last two days, as it was the only way to get back to a normal schedule. some of the models are wonky, but i left them alone if they were... visually interesting.
one of the panels is already shaded because this scene needed a lot more palette articulation than it had previously on page 50. the rest of the page is flatted with the shadows rather than the highlights, so it looks a little odd right now.

i'm not sure how much i have to say about this page, as it's a lot of intro to the scene. notably, this is the last important scene that tabitha plays a meaningful role in, if she's present at all, if i recall correctly. RIP to a top contender for my fave character in this comic.

a sense of guilt kim has has been heavily emphasized in the last couple scenes, so now this is the payoff.  i am excited for it, since i think it's going to develop a different kind of guilt from the most obvious expectation. a guilt tabitha's been carrying with her since her introduction in the comic will kind of tie into it.
it was definitely a challenge to put everything down for a week and a half right before the start of a scene i've been looking forward to for literal years, but i think it was worth it.

the tension of watching kim having to come to terms with how shes been to others the last few pages has been palpable, man does she look haggard here especially T___T really looking foward to this next scene and this payoff, im gonna miss tabitha a bunch i rememeber you talking about how many ways kim has frowned in this comic so far and just how many ways one Can frown, it really speaks to your abilities as an artist to nail so many of these different expressions. I got to the 7th panel and just paused for a second to soak kims expression in

thanks for the comment! interestingly the palette is pretty homologous, mostly relying on added grey and desaturated accents for variety. they are kind of complementary including kim's scrubs and tabitha's eyes, but for the most part, just indigos and purples! (i should note, the complementary colors are baked into both tabitha and kim's designs) https://i.gyazo.com/e45945276ca36d1a5deebc9e8b42df00.png

god i relate to tabitha so fucking much. i looked her bio up and she's only a year older than me so no wonder lol. i'm VERY sad that she's not gonna be part of the comic after this but . i hope that means good news for her. i can't decide if she or carmilla is my favorite. tabitha is big relatable but carmilla is such a like... wild ass chaotic bitch with big 'threatens men with her very existence' energy that as a lesbian i am contractually obligated to love her very dearly that said the colors on this page are so fucking juicy. the purples and the tealy-greens with blue complements like god. i dont think they're complementary colors as far as the color wheel goes so i don't know why they look so fantastic together here?? im not saying that as a diss like 'oh you didnt use complementary colors' i mean 'i literally do not know the science behind why these colors feel really good on my brain stem because nobody taught me that shit beyond PURPLE AND YELLOW R OPPOSITES' and they dont like .. compromise the character designs at all. obviously kim's colors could not be any further removed from lilac and sky blue but they FEEL like LIGHTING. i think the establishing shot of her dipping her head into the dark room where tabitha is really sells it. sorry i took my ritalin lmfao im saying this page whips. great linework as always also. love how kim's pupils get a bit of light in them in the last few panels to emphasize her expressions. it makes her look really endearing and youthful which i think complements her youthful confusion and guilt and exasperation with the whole-ass hospital
