page 23 has been taking centuries because it is VERY detailed, and i've also been distracted by an intense desire to work on a folie a dupe strip (currently all the way drawn, needs special coloring effect) and a video game (not even close to finished, has 2 animations sketched, and am working out the issues with a wall climbing system) plus real life... whew.
but this isn't page 23.

maybe you noticed felix left his keys in the door. unironically this is not important, i just thought it was funny, and it made it a lot easier to just disregard the prop and save panels by not needing to draw him tucking it into his pocket again or holding them for the entire scene.

for this page, i went back to sketching at regular size from the start rather than thumbnails first. drawing with the thumbnails felt weird and unnatural, stressful to my brain in various moderately unpleasant ways.
it was relieving to get back to it, and i had enough pages to look back on how i've drawn felix and decide what particular ways i found especially visually appealing. one of them was being able to see felix's muzzle as a distinct shape.
the other thing is that i started to draw felix's eyes differently, so they may not be fully closed shapes anymore. i draw the pupils first, like in thumbnails, and then draw the eye shape around them... most of the time. it seemed like it would make transitions to thumbnails i do later easier. i ended up really liking the look of the thumbnails and hating the final product because of the eyes in particular.

don't know if i mentioned in the commentary prior, but the apartment felix lives in is based on the apartment i lived in in philadelphia.

some dialogue was removed from the scene: floyd said "sorry for not tagging my ramen gore" to felix while retrieving his ramen from the microwave, and felix mentions to floyd that if he needs to use the bathroom to do it now, because felix is going to be glued to it for the night after an eggnog drinking contest. floyd asks him why the fuck he would do that when he knows he's lactose intolerant, to which felix says he needs friends more than he needs intestines.
