hi. context: i thought of a new comic from combining two old ideas i'd been kicking around in my head for a while called idletry last week. since bringing it up again and combining the ideas, work on the script has really poured out of me like liquid from a pitcher. i've stayed up until 5 or 6 am typing more ideas about this story on my phone for at least half of the days out of this week.
i really like the story. i like it to a degree where i'd want to hold it in my hands physically. part of the core premise of the comic is that the protagonist is aware she's in a fictional story, which is referred to at various times as "a storybook" or "a book" -- it would feel very fitting if it were an actual book.
like the worm comic, which got its ending about a month ago and now only needs to be hard-scripted for me to start work on it, i don't have time to work on this comic. i worry that by the time i get to it i'll have gotten bored with the ideas or die in a freak accident or something. on some level i miss working on a passion project that isn't just a folie a dupe strip, but i haven't had one since like, drop-out.
anyway, i wanted to gauge reception on if i ended up replacing one catharsis update per week with work on comics for print instead. usually, this is the side comic slot, so i'd like to finish coloring DYSTAI first.
i WILL say: this is more than asking for tolerance with a change in work schedule; comic books cost money to print. comics with color cost more. so this would first need space in the work schedule, but also need some kind of crowdfunding for x amount of books printed.
i've also had a lot of people ask for printed versions of drop-out and fresh meat. if i can successfully finish and fund the print of idletry OR the worm comic, i'm also willing to continue using this time slot to carefully edit drop-out and/or fresh meat to be printed. i really don't want my first self-published work to be something not even made for print, though. -_-; don't know if that's motivating, but if anyone is interested in those, i'm gauging interest based on this as well.
so like. hate doing calls to action but i'm gauging:
1) would you tolerate having half of my work schedule taken up by print comics which will not be posted regularly (i will prob post pages in batches scene by scene)
2) would you be interested in crowdfunding a print comic from me
3) would you be interested in a print version of drop-out, fresh meat, both, or neither
would love it if any of you fine citizens would drop a comment about these things.
i'm going to try to finish the outline if not the script for idletry by the end of april. if my enthusiasm is at least consistent enough to do that, i'll post more about it here then.
thanks for reading.
