i've been thinking about and working on this comic A Lot. probably pushed a lot of important work off in favor of it because my work ethic is Like That.
then my shoulder and neck have been screwed up. i'm supposed to start physical therapy within the week, but i'm just tired. unless i'm thinking about this badger.
regardless, wanted to talk about it so far just a little. the colored comic in the middle is a color style test. i'm not totally unhappy with it, but it is surreal in an uncontrolled way. i was trying to study bright comics i'd looked at and really liked the colors for. they don't make much sense to me, still. i tried for a midground color range centering around one color, a background and foreground that are a "nearby" color, and then the far background being complementary to help push depth by visually separating the background and the characters. i wouldn't plan for the panel palettes to change as erratically as they do here -- they would be better off staying consistent on held shots.
it's surreal in a way that i think will take the edge off of the gore and sex present in the comic, but will detract from the more serious points -- still, i can get a lot of trippy palettes via exclusion and difference filters, and the same principles can probably be applied to duller versions of these colors, which would be more appropriate for those scenes.
(seriously, these colors are disgusting in the best way possible to me)

the font i'm not happy with in practice. it doesn't read fluidly, even though i wanted the mixed caps to read like early drop-out sugar dialogue. it'll be jessie's handwriting regardless, which you can see in the test comic. i'll try to figure out something that's all-caps for the dialogue, i think.
a lot of the other drawings are either because i was resting in bed and felt like laying down was making the pain worse (the traditional ones) or just practicing things like how to draw jessie's dot eyes or snarls.
even with this intense focus on it, the comic is not anywhere near close to starting production. Act 1 has like 4 and a half scenes left until it's completely drafted. I've at this point figured out what i'll probably fill the B-plot of act 2 with -- jessie trying to be a superhero.
i forgot to mention in the last post about it, but in addition to the three acts, there's an epilogue, a second epilogue, and an afterword as well. the first epilogue is fairly short. the second epilogue and afterword are both styled like folie a dupe comics.
it's just a lot of comic only being pushed forward by passion. it's useful that a lot of the time it feels like my shoulders and hand suck too much to draw, but i can write, so i sit down to write.
once i move onto act 2 i'm not sure how i'll deliver updates on it because it obviously has nudity and sexually explicit content, which would require me to mark my campaign as 18+. it would kind of make it look like the primary content here is smut when it isn't. that is for future me to figure out, but if you don't see as many updates for act 2, that's why, lmao.
EDIT: i forgot to mention, but the aforementioned afterword i intend to only be in the first print run of the comic; if it ever gets another print run, they'll only have the two epilogues at the end.
