the pages really add up when they're smaller. the sketch for this one is messier. it's a bad brain day, but not so bad that i didn't get it done. :)
this page is definitely supposed to relieve some tension, while building up what eats away at sugar so much. right now, it's her job to the audience, but i also think the end dialogue will build more context than just that she doesn't enjoy having a job. it also just contextualizes their relationship's dynamic more and makes lola Less Of A Background Object.
i wanted the unseen words they exchange here to be more overt, more like they were intentionally removed, so that the comic reads less like it's just so quiet that there are no sounds, and more like there is actually an eerie silence cloaking sugar's narrative.
i don't think lola does this every day, but i also don't think she has never done it before. i wanted sugar's reaction to be, at first, surprise, but not all the way through the interaction. since it's supposed to be an average day for her, it wouldn't make sense for something brand new to happen. similarly, on the first page, i wanted it obvious that lola grabs sugar's arm pretty much every day when she gets up. sugar is not even a little bit surprised. partners dig deep grooves in your psyche with their habits over time, and that's something i want to keep in mind for these two. their relationship is not so new anymore.
also, i have to figure out what the wedding ring habits for both of them are, lol. sugar's bare right hand here is ESPECIALLY obvious to me, yet i don't feel i want to create more panels in the apartment to show her putting the ring on.
brain bad so that's all i've got to say about this one, i think.
