FaD strip: it'll last longer

i uploaded this one publicly a while ago, but i realize not everyone who is a patron uses social media. it's also just nice to have it here.

this is maybe a great example of the benefits not having a mind that can visualize well. i knew the beats i wanted in the comic, but the first panel, showing off the sunset, was really giving me trouble.
in my mind, i had like, 12 different kinds of beautiful sunsets that i had wanted to combine. you don't usually get every color of the rainbow at once, but i wanted to REALLY exaggerate the colorfulness of the sunset for the punchline.
my width for folie a dupe strips is 540 pixels, originally decided so they showed up crisp and pixely on tumblr, which is not a lot of room. i also decided, to maximize the amount of space i had to work with, and to practice using the white space more like print comics do, i would keep the sunset shot outside of a panel, and then i decided to just make that extend all the way down the canvas. i decided for the clouds to be in "scrolling perspective" as well, which would emulate looking at several different sunsets and give me more flexibility with the colors as well...
the clouds were initially going to have shading as well, but i realized there was too much chaos with that level of detail. unfortunate, but tolerable, and probably easier on my hand.
i think if i had had a particular visual in my head, this might have been a more cluttered, simple 4-panel comic strip. fresh meat's final page was similar, and the lack of spatial intelligence at least leaves my mind open to more novel ideas sometimes.

this was drawn from memory of a real place, so it was also interesting to see what landmarks i hadn't remembered at all while trying to draw it, haha. and i've thought about this comic every time i see the sun set now.
