do you still think about it, page 26 [sketch]

we have dialogue now... i thought i'd get a lot further into the scene here, but such is the nature of comics.

i was thinking sugar should just grab a ton of onions since lola didn't specify, but because they come in those like 5 lb bags, that would be most intuitive. it's not one onion, but it's not excessive. she is using a reusable bag for the grocery.

lola's also wearing a larger low-value shirt because painting is messy. she uses watercolors primarily, but still, sometimes ink or acrylic can get involved.

because of the regularity of sugar's routines, i think it would only make sense for lola to be by the door when sugar arrives home. it's like a 2-5 minute window, so it wouldn't be a long wait. i wanted it to be distinct from frankie waiting for sugar by her door, though. she is farther away from the door, less tense in body position, and casually paying attention to a phone instead of focusing on the act of waiting.

i thought about lola saying hi before she's interrupted here, because the delay seems prolonged with the amount of space sugar has to traverse in panel 3. still, i kind of wanted the first words in the comic to be more relevant to its themes. i will think on it more.

i was also initially going to have these two breaking up the touching in the last panel to move the action forward, but since i wasn't going to get to a great place to cut anyway, i kept what was in the script -- that they hug after kissing. i wanted them to have a significant amount of touching. i want them to just, seem like they want to be near each other, and in each other's presence. i think it will be interesting to compare how i draw these two interacting to outis and keshet's marriage, as outis is usually much more averse to being touched, while keshet needs some level of physical touch to feel secure in the relationship. their dynamic will ideally be, just as genuine, but more like an exchange than mutual desire for the same experience.

due to the left-to-right nature of comics combined with the necessary movement, i had to focus on sugar's blue eye in these shots. the other options were just... less legible and less desirable by a lot. i decided to roll with it and split the last panel, which was drawn as just one, to punctuate sugar calling this a normal day, and brushing all of the experiences the audience got to share with her under the rug once coming home.
